Choosing a new cel phone

I need to get a new cel phone because the one I've had for the last 4 years crapped out on me. I'm not into all the lingo and I hate buzzwords. I'm looking for a phone that can get on the internet, use polyphonic or better ringtones, and bluetooth.

I've narrowed it down to the these two Motorolla phones:

- MOTORAZR V3xx
- Motorola SLVR L7

I will admit, even though the V3xx comes in a gold color, I am more inclined to get the SLVR for practical purposes. However, I don't want to be surprised by a feature that the one will have leaving me slapping my forehead.

I read the Wikipedia article on 3G networks and A2DP, but I'm still left scratching my head over the importance of such a feature. Opera on my phone sounds interesting, but again, I don't know.

Is it really worth my while?

The RAZR doesn't have a slot for a microSD card. At least my V3c doesn't. It's fucking lame as fuck. If you can get a RAZR with the SD slot then it's just your choice on a flip or not.

Grab a SLVR though. Because it has the SD slot. HUGE selling point.

To be honest, Motorola is kinda cheap and clunky. If you can, go with a Sony Ericson or Samsung phone instead, they're built like tanks, fast/easy to use interface, play mp3s off memory cards, great sound quality for calls and music, and great cameras too.

Well, crap. Thanks for adding to my indecisiveness. I didn't even consider another brand and now I'm back to square one. I have added these phones to my consideration.

    - Sony Ericsson W300i
    - Cingular SYNC by Samsung
    - LG CU500

Honestly, I'm waiting for one strong opinion. Something like, "I had so and so phone and it blew up on me for no reason. Apparently it happens a lot." or "I bought this phone and it was better than cocaine."

    Something to that effect.

EDIT: Thought it might be important to mention, but my provider is Cingular.

My fiancee and I both have W300i's from Unicel, and we love them. The Ericsson software that comes with them is easy to use, and does everything I want it to.

The only downfall I have for it so far, is that Memory Stick Micros only come up to 1GB right now. They're not expensive, but if you're looking for the phone to double as an MP3 player, the amount of space available is lacking.

Having owned a RAZR my opinion would be to go with the SLVR, but that's only because I'm jealous that I can't get one with Verizon. I had the V3c like the poster above, it was kinda slow navigating menus, but that might only have been because of Verizon's crappy UI.

I'm a fan of LG phones, never owned a Sony Ericsson or Samsung though.

Maybe this site will help you a bit, or it will make your decision even harder: http://www.phonescoop.com

Definitely get a Sony Ericcson. I've heard almost nothing but good things from them.

The guys at www.howardforums.com specialize in cell phones. Not to discredit our H/A, but I got very informative responses quickly over there....

    This man speaks the truth.

I bought the RAZR back when it was like $500, before they cheaped out on quality control and production, and the thing was still a piece of shit. Dirt gets underneath the screen, the hinge is flimsy, the bluetooth headset volume output is so low that it's absolutely unusable, and the phone just, as a whole, is no good. I won't be buying another Motorola product for a good long time. What finally killed it for me was that the keypad just stopped working.

That said, I upgraded first to some slider Samsung thing, but didn't care for it. So I exchanged it and got a Sony Ericsson W810i:

The thing is absolutely fantastic. The UI is snappy and responsive, the camera is actually useful (it's good for a cell phone, but still a cell phone camera), it comes with a decent set of headphones (with an adapter, so you can basically use any headphones you want with it), and it is really designed around being a MP3 player. It does WMA, too, and probably ATRAC. It has a Memory Stick Duo slot in it; I put a 4GB card in mine, and it holds almost all my music and it's good enough that I've since sold my iPod, because why carry that around, too, when my phone plays music just as well, and it's with me anyways?

I just got the Nokia 5300 Xpress Music and I love it. It came with a 1 gig SD card which was nice, and of course, you could get bigger cards. The MP3 player is really great on it too, and the camera is 1.3 Megapixels, which is a step up from what I had before. It's also relatively inexpensive with contract renewal.

On Cingular one of the best phones right now is the Samsung Blackjack, imo. One of the guys I work with has one and it is great. Similar size/shape to the Razr. It feels like it's built solid, has a microSD slot, qwerty keypad (makes internet stuff 100000000 times more tolerable), bluetooth, quad band, and generally pretty sweet.
