The term "Beating like a rented mule" comes to mind...

I will try to throw together a visual when I get home, but my idea was to do the same: "Keep calm and" on a red shirt, followed by an actual computer f5 key.

Spawned from the F5 warriors thread prime 2014 registration anticipation.

If we want to use the official logo, we could contact PAX Questions for permission. It seems to have been done before, as long as the item isn't sold or monetized in any way. I'd be happy to follow up and ask.

    Pocket PAX logo approval

The problem is that it's just like the pax coin. Someone has to pay to have them made. They need back just cost though

Do a Kickstarter - think that's how the Assassin's Ball does it. Have a $5 funding goal, and a single level/payment. Or do a CafePress setup.

I like the kick-starter idea. How much do they take out of it though? That has to be factored in along with shipping.

It's ok if we use images as idea, but someone will need to actually make the image we want to use due to copyright. I think it would look better photoshopped anyway because it fits the computer theme of pax.

A campaign on Teespring could also work (better pricing than Cafe Press). I'm zipping off an email now to PAX Questions about using the logo so we can clear that up before we get too far down the road. Any t-shirt providers would require that permission to print and sell the shirts.

Edited to add: I'm still a bit new to posting in this forum. Are we okay to use the logo in this thread while working up ideas?

One note on kickstarter as a platform, the linking of active kickstarters is forbidden across the entirety of the PA forums.

Yes. Please keep all embedded images under our site-wide limit of 500K though.

I'm reasonably certain we cannot use the PAX logo, but i know we've used teh community crest for similar things (dice, mugs, pins, etc).

    Prime 2017: Tickets soon please...

Awesome, thanks Zerzhul! Design idea v2 incorporating suggestions from the other thread. Dumb question - where's the community crest?

Gotta admit this is pretty awesome. I would love to see PAX adopt this and sell it at the Merch booth. I am definitely getting one of these shirts regardless of how they come to be. Has anyone suggested trying to get this as a part of official PAX merch?

To tell you the truth we just thought this up like 3 hours ago.

Looks good! I'd pick one of these up (I feel I've earned it after the last few years, waiting for tickets to go up).

Que up old lady voice; "I remember when you use to be able to walk up to the door and buy tickets day of."

  • zerzhulzerzhul Registered User, Moderator mod
It would not surprise me to find out that the merch team wouldn't accept a community design, due to potential issues with owning the art, etc. I'm sure you could email them though. It's the same as the PA merch email.

  • PurpleSkyPurpleSky Registered User regular
Aww what a shame, cuz it's such a funny/clever design. Oh well I still want one :)

I apologize for the negativity, but do we really need another "Keep Calm and _______" design in the world?

Between us, we've got a ridiculous amount of pent-up energy from the wait for Prime passes, maybe we can use that to fuel some creativity and come up with some totally original designs.

Email sent to PAX_Questions regarding logo use and waiting on a reply. Zerzhul, I can follow up with PA Merch too but can't find their email addy. Can you point me to it please?

Hoping to see more design ideas posted here as the working folk get home tonight! ;)

Pax is for gamers. Gamers are on the computer. The computer has forums. Forums have many users. Many users like overused memes. Hence the reason why we need an overused meme in the design.

  • SkeleVaderSkeleVader Your Friendly Dark Lord of Destruction Registered User regular
It's not just the over used meme, this particular idea has been used several times by different groups.

Used to be posted on a contact page, but I guess the new PA redesign doesn't include that page any longer.

Exactly! I just tossed my design out there mainly to encourage ideas, and because I had nothing better to do while repeatedly F5'ing. ;)

I'm hoping this was a joke, but in case it's not, the moderation team has zero incentive to restrict anyone's creative juices.

Making my way through The Dark Tower for the first time. Fan indeed!

Also, for my suggestion (since I too would rather not just piggyback off of a tired meme)...

I'm thinking up top you have it say "F5 Warriors" and then beneath that simply "Because nothing is more refreshing than getting into PAX". Maybe between the two bits of text a simple drawing of somebody huddled over the keyboard pressing F5 with crazy eyes. I'm only beginning as an artist (have a very long way to go) but I'd be willing to take a shot at drawing that. I imagine there are a lot of people around here who could do a better job at it, though.

  • cardkid123cardkid123 Registered User regular
I thought it would be a funnier shirt if we didn't have the meaning on the shirt. It would be a little inside joke.

I can imagine some sort of gauntlet drawn with an "F5 Key" that appears to be etched into the wrist guard as part of a PAXish crest. Year could be optional.

I'm really hoping for a 10th anniversary shirt! I somehow completely missed the fact that one existed for East 2014 until the Sunday, and then only XXXL and above were left...doh.

Just wanted to point out, that Buttoneering was born from wanting to make shirts 8 years ago, and then discovering a more fun, less smelly way to recognize each other. I really suggest checking it out for stuff like this!

EDIT: I should mention, a bag of 100 buttons costs about the same as nicely done T-shirt, but comes with the bonus that you can trade them for other buttons. Here's the designs people were trading last year: http://buttoneering.org/events/pax-prime-2013/buttons
