Today's game was down to the wire. Also another newbie to play Bob, so yay!
So. Last game we took a 'Mech depot held by the Andurien Secessionists. This game we held it while our dropship came in.
My Wolverine was out of commission so I took a Highlander we managed to get working. Bob, having survived yet another ammo explosion, took a Marauder that they managed to get working before we held 'em up. Our other three (Chris's Archer, Dallas's Crusader and NPC Josh's Charger) got mostly fixed up.
We then had to hold the depot against a Shootist, Victor, Crusader and Orion. It was knock-down, drag-out carnage. I lost my arm and leg while trying to get up, our Charger had one point of CT left, our Crusader lost his left leg (again). Bob and Chris were barely holding the depot at the end.
Shootist was our first target and lasted way too long. Orion ran in only to get cored. Victor took a while longer, Crusader was last and got picked apart by the Archer and now-armless Marauder. A Pyrrhic victory, maybe, but we got away with our lives, our 'Mechs mostly intact and plenty of salvage from both the depot itself and the Secession defenders and attackers.

Insane_Kangaroo made good on the promise of new Raven and Shadow Hawk models based on the MWO models. They're up on eBay now, and pretty sweet looking.

...I wonder what the Stalker II would look like next to the MWO version, assuming they aren't actually the same.

From the renders floating around on the official BattleTech boards, the new Stalker II sculpt is *very* similar to the MWO model. It's not specifically based on it, but apparently the guy that did the renders/orthos for the master model plays MWO and hangs out on the forums over there. "Heavily Inspired", I think is where this ends up.
Also, the fig is apparently between 12-14 separate pieces. Get ready to bust out the pin vise, drill bits, pins, and epoxies.
MWO model:
More Stalker II shots, this time with the resculpted Stalker (original blimpie flavor). These shots really show off how bad the old fig was, and how much better this one is.
Ho. Ly. Shite. I'm still reading all this, there's so many things to read on. Reactions in a few minutes!

SWEET BABY KERENSKY.
REIMAGINING THE CLASSICS
The re-designing of the unseen BattleMechs that was accomplished as part of Project Phoenix was the right option at that time. It ensured those BattleMechs were usable by the community in both Technical Readouts and miniatures form as we thoroughly explored the unfolding plot lines of the Jihad Era.
However, as FanPro—and then Catalyst—continued to exploring the full breadth of the BattleTech history in Historical, Era and Field Manual sourcebooks, it became more apparent that the solution that worked so well for post-3067 left the ’Mech berths empty for previous time periods, especially the Succession Wars. After years of weighing the pros and cons, we’ve made the decision to not just dip our toes in the pool, but to leap into the deep end: straight out of the DropShips into a hot LZ!
We’ve spent the last half-year re-imagining the unseen BattleMechs that will always be one of the hallmarks of BattleTech. Our goal during all of this remains to merge 21st Century sensibilities with the classic lines that make those ’Mechs so near and dear to all of us.
As part of this announcement you’ll see two covers that feature the results of this extensive work, as well as a render to start proof-of-concept miniatures production. In the coming weeks and months we’ll be rolling out more covers and sketches to show all the work that’s been merged into this amazing project.

For comparison:
Hoo, boy. I'm not sure I'm ready for what's coming down the line, here.
Can't wait for the unseens to get their models. They really just need to make the MWO models the standard models and produce them in mass as a standard product. Nice models at a reasonable price with alpha strike rules... yes I'll replace every mech I own.

Why replace? Add to the growing horde.
If there is in fact a new Alpha Strike box set at Gen Con next week (not confirmed), my wallet and miniature-painting-plan will both weep.**
HOWEVER!
I have a real, deep-seated concern about the Classics revision. I posted this on the official forums:
The announcement of the Classics, is frankly, the best. Marauders and Warhammers are what I grew up with. I'm hyped beyond hype.
But I've got a question, and I hope we get an answer on this: What has changed, that CGL is now diving head-first into reimagining the Unseen/Classics? And not get dragged into Intellectual Property Legal Mess 2.0?
I want so badly to walk into a store and buy shiny new Classics. I don't think my heart and spirit can take having that vision of the future destroyed by legal wranglings.
**[Edit]
Quote from Adrian Gideon, one of the BT developers:
And there's not enough on the Alpha Strike Box Set to talk about, so you can consider this unofficially official: You see we're working on brand new minis from the ground up, and the AS Box is our next game aid to feature minis so...and as of this moment, we're looking at a Binary vs. a company for the content.
Neat. And reading between the lines, it doesn't sound like this product is far enough along to expect it at Gen Con. Maybe previews of printed 'Mech renders, but nothing to walk out of the building with (legally).
Man, oh man, I am so hyped for next week.

So I picked up a copy of the Interstellar Operations (Beta) book.
Man, this thing is chunky. 386 delicious pages. So good for a 'Mech-construction-nerd like me, filled with so many crunchy things to poke at and play with.

Today's game of BT went, uh, not so well.
So last two games we raided an Andurien Secession depot where they stashed some Star League-era 'Mechs. Turns out the depot was built recently, meaning they're pulling the things out from somewhere else. Well, we went looking for trouble and we found it. Our Archer, Crusader, Enforcer and foisted Highlander against a Marauder, Archer, Battlemaster and Zeus.
...We got creamed. We barely took down the Battlemaster and knocked the Marauder over. In return, our Crusader got triple crits in the engine, the Enforcer lost its CT and - in quite the sobering event indeed - the Archer got PPC'd in the cockpit, killing the pilot when he whiffed the pity Piloting check. I actually managed a Highlander Burial against the BM, only for me to miss the fall test. That was the only damage my HGN took that whole game, which was especially frustrating given the enemies were gunning to take my 'Mech back from the beginning.

Friend Oosiks!
It is the eve, of the eve, of an auspicious day! In two days, Gen Con, one of the largest traditional and tabletop gaming conventions in the world, will begin!
I am rolling down to Indianapolis with a crew tomorrow! If any of you are in the area, for the Con or otherwise, and want to get together Wednesday evening, shoot me a PM!
Perhaps we'll share in some cameraderie, adult beverages, and table-top simulations of our Stompy Bot shenanigans?
Hey, look at that, I painted another thing! The Eridani Light Horse is here to represent!

On man, I'm aaaaallllll over that. Vendor Hall time is Friday for me, I'll report back K as soon as I've got the full scoop. Maybe earlier between D&D games.
It could be really cool and I would play it, or be really stupid and I wouldn't, but either way some lawyer type might try to shut down MegaMek (the open source game, not the PA forum poster) because of it and that would make me very sad.

Nah, this new game probably won't have a multiplayer component, and just be a SP campaign with RPG elements. Just basing that off the dev who's doing it.
MegaMek is still pretty much doing work no one else is.
Looks like 3025 timeframe confirmed! @Nips gencon exclusive whale opportunity, good luck.
I am super stoked for 3025. Fourth Succession War is the best.
Fixed that for you.
That having been said, I'm personally of the mind that a story set in the 3030's or 3040's could be really sweet, especially since there isn't a whole lot written from that time period.
God, just imagine a war of 3039 game.

Well, so far, nothing super exciting to report; that article at alistdaily has all the information we've got here. Essentially, I have the opportunity to give them money now for some sorta-eh con swag (dog tags), with some variant units in the PC game when it launches (alt Firestarter, alt Atlas confirmed).
