If someone has some extra ones they would like to get rid of, shoot me a PM. I'm looking for a weekend pass (preferable) or day passes.

I may end up doing just that, but I really did kind of want to see what all the hullabaloo was about, since I'm traveling either 32 hours by car or $500 by plane.

I still really want to go, I'd be fine with getting to see the expo for just a day, but mostly hanging out with people. Maybe I can borrow a pass for a day, I did that last year when I only managed to get 2 days.

How much did it cost you to fly when you went? Out of curiosity. Also @Fyndir same question.

Mine is a bit more confusing because I haven't actually booked my main flights yet, I'll be taking a longer trip with PAX somewhere in there, so I have my flights from Vegas to PAX booked, and my pax tickets, and my hotel, but not the bigger expenses like the UK-US flight or travel insurance.

  • AphostileAphostile San Francisco, CARegistered User regular
Listen, Liiya, all you need to do is fly to Dave.

    Buy him lots of drinks.

Then call us and we'll do the rest.

That's not a good question because I booked at 3 night stay at the Sheraton by myself which I think was $800 by itself!!

The next year where I'd learned my lesson, I think I got away with doing it for £500-600 but flights were cheaper then. :disappointed_relieved:

If I could, I'd go again in a heartbeat.

Ahhh fair dos Fyndir, that makes more sense to make a longer trip of it! Take nice photos for me yeah?

Haha! Sounds like a good plan, get Dave drunk and have him take me as hand luggage right?

That is MUCH cheaper, its looking about a £900 on a quick google search thats without all the hotels, train Manc-Ldn, so on and so on.

You got a good deal when you did go!

I've been missing my phone the last few days. Ah well, getting tickets would have still been tricky, even if I could be notified by a text message.
I'm lucky enough to go a few times in my life already. I hope ya'll have fun, make friends, and experience an awesome adventure!

I think I may never go to a PAX again as long as I live.

I went once, and it was lovely, and buying tickets was a leisurely click.

I think that's enough for me.

This is why I go to DragonCon on Labor Day weekend. At least there I know I can get in since I can register the year before on site. You have to be some kind of wizard to get passes to the PAXes these days. Although the scramble for Atlanta hotel rooms is just as intense as getting badges.

  • acerXKacerXK Registered User new member
Why is it that every year all the badges are gone within a few hours and then you see scalpers out front of the con with 50 of each? Something is broken and needs to be fixed. I join the queue every year as soon as I get the tweet but have yet to get passes(at least the 3/4 days) and end up with a couple Mondays and maybe a Sunday. But come on is there not a limit? If there is people are getting around it and it's a shame for those of us who are true PAX fans :-(

Scalpers are always going to be a problem, but they're not the reason why PAX tickets sell out in an hour

    1) A lot of those passes are probably counterfeit.
    2) There is no system that has been devised that hasn't been beat by people determined to make money from it. Like, this system only lets you buy 4. But you can beat that with PO Boxes and multiple credit cards really easily.

I got Friday, Saturday and Sunday passes for myself
I don't even know how to begin coordinating a hotel room

Especially because I don't aaaaaactually know how easy it'll be for me to actually take time off work for this hahaha I am adult, I make smart choice with money numbers

The one night this week I stay up late, and of course PAX goes on sale. Oh well, PAX has grown beyond the meager convention for me. Which of you lovely miscreants is up for some summertime geekery!?

Alternate line: Cut off 1 form of hangout, and 2 more shall take it's place.

Yeah Baltimore hotel rooms are fucking intense too, because there are so damn few good hotels in Baltimore

Reason #1 I'm looking forward to DC Otakon, really

the capacity of the Seattle convention center is just not enough. San Diego has the same problem every damn year.

i'd like to see some means to give more advance notice when passes go on sale, but besides that, PAX Prime will always have capacity problems.

Trying to get a hotel room for D*C is the worst

Fortunately I'm just a few miles outside the perimeter so I just take the train in, but it can be kind of a bummer since the train and bus schedule dictates when I have to head out

Also PAX tickets are EXTREMELY cheap, $35 for a day is ridiculously inexpensive. An economist's way of fixing the problem would be to increase ticket prices so demand drops to better match the supply. PAX refuses to do that though due to pledging to stay cheap so we end up with this mad dash where only people who prepped with Twitter text messages and who are in a position at that moment in time to jump on it can get a ticket. I mean Blizzard sells their 2 day Blizzcon tickets for $200 and they have similar problems as PAX in regards to instantly selling out, so I wonder just how much money PAX would have to charge to make demand low enough.

The only other solution would be from the non-PA side of things, PAX is one of the only big game conventions that is open to the public. If E3 and/or GDC were to (re)open to the public, you'd likely see a dissemination of demand across conventions.

Also Pax Prime seems to always get the most "new" game stuff vs East or Aus.

Or they just keep adding PAXes until they quit selling out.

Like, GDC is a professional conference that happens to invite the press. It isn't a public event and wouldn't work as one. E3 is a huge clusterfuck as-is; inviting the public would just make it worse.

There's hope for South Pax, and Aus Pax to not sell out super quick.
But that means traveling across the world, or uh Texas. Texas might be alright in January.

pretend I posted that achewood panel of somebody laughing here

But in all seriousness, I don't think adding more PAXs is a surefire solution either. East sells out same day now too compared to when it just started a few years ago, dunno about Aus sales history but I wouldn't be surprised if there wasn't a mad dash on South tickets when they go on sale too.
