On of the biggest mind-blown moments I've had reading history was when I read that the Phoenician themselves spoke and wrote a west semitic languages and their word for themselves was canaanite. What a difference in a name. The distinction between seafaring Phoenician and inland canaanite is one that probably would not have occurred to them but was madw by the greeks in their dealings with them.
The canaanites were right at the heart of the catastrophic end of the bronze age but the details stilk elude us
I think there is much that could be made of survivals of bronze age culture into classical times by way of these canaanites
