What flag is this?

I just bought a military style jacket with a flag on one of the breast pockets, but I can't tell what country it's from, or even if it's something completely made up. I don't have a camera so I can't provide pics, but it's a pretty simple design-- three horizontal stripes in the order black, maroon, olive. None of my friends could ID it...

Not exactly the answer you're looking for I imagine, but it should be on there.
Unless it belongs to a country that no longer exists.

    Alternatively,

Is it mw.gif? That's the flag of Malawi according to FotW. Seems to match your description, except for the sun emblem.

It also sounds similar to the Afghanistan flag on FotW, save that this flag has vertical stripes.

Atleast try to draw it in mspaint or something. Will make it easier to identify.

The colors are a bit off, but it sounds like it could be a discolored German flag. German military surplus is pretty common.

Yeah, the German stuff is everywhere - and most countries will have a camouflaged version of their flag on the uniform these days. Ive seen U.S. and Canadian flags redone in olive and khaki, so this makes sense.

It doesn't have any designs aside from the three stripes. I guess a discolored German flag could work, but I've MSPainted it to see if anyone has any other ideas:

As soon as I finished reading your post, I thought "Germany". I had or have (somewhere) a camoflauge jacket with that on the shoulder.

    Germany.

Many jackets are sold with these colours.

I'm not sure how much of it is fake - Germany did have a very large conscript army up into the 1990's. I'd assume that would generate a good deal of surplus uniforms.

Yeah, I heard from a surplus store that Germany went through a period of selling all their old stuff. People bought it by the pallet for dirt cheap and it's being sold all over the world now.

It's common for flag patches on military uniforms meant for field use to be printed in subdued colors. Germany's flag is normally black red yellow but on a field uniform that bright red and yellow have got to go.
