I finally got a Wii last Thursday, and I've been happily playing Zelda ever since. However, last night, the sound coming out of my wiimote started cutting out at random. Like, I'd be swinging my sword and the sound would come out garbled and then it would just stop, coming back a minute later, and then a few minutes later it would happen again. In addition, sometimes (not very often), I notice a bit of sluggishness from the nunchuk - where I run in one direction and then move the analog stick to turn, but I'll keep running in the previous direction for a second. The battery life indicator says there are 3 bars left and the wiimote hasn't been dropped or gone through any other trauma in its lifetime.
Should I RMA it? If I do, how long will I be without it? I just bought this thing and I kinda want to get my waggle on without having to wait 6 weeks.

They might be willing to send you a remote in advance (in exchange for a CC# in case you don't return the defective one), but you'll be looking at however long it takes UPS to ship it to Nintendo (probably 4 days or so), a day or two at Nintendo (depending on what time they receive it) and then return shipping if you RMA it. Probably no more than 10 days.
The nunchuck problem appears to be specific to Zelda. I seem to play a bit different than my friends, in that I never stop moving unless it's to open a door or hop on Epona. I think it's a quirk in how it handles movement, i.e. if you're upside-down and start moving around a platform that is U-shaped (you're on the bottom) you can press down (to move Link towards you) and you'll keep walking up around the platform without having to switch directions when you're on top unless you move the analog stick to neutral. I think that triggers sometimes for unknown reasons.
I had the problem with my remote speaker dropping/distorting sound and sent it back for a replacement. I had it for three months before this happened, and it might have been because it was repeatedly dropped by someone playing Super Castlevania IV.
