The new forums will be named Coin Return (based on the most recent vote)! You can check on the status and timeline of the transition to the new forums here.
The Guiding Principles and New Rules document is now in effect.
Just like Friend Codes, you're not allowed to share Wii Numbers on the NSider Forums, either through threads or PMs.
If you attempt to do so or solicit them in any way, or link to sites where people share such codes, you will not be allowed to participate in the NSider Forums.
Yeah, that'd be a problem. If I was on Nsider. How is this even relevant, aside from the fact that those forums suck hard and these are a little more gentle?
So yeah, it's a policy that they've had since the DS introduced its online plan. It's to protect all the kids on the Nintendo forums. They couldn't care less what people on other forums do with their codes.

Although some of the hostile people in this thread are doing their best not to see it, the implication of that link is quite clear. It is their corporate policy to discourage Wii users from sharing their codes online.
You should only share your Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection ID, Wii number or friend code with people that you know and via a private means of communication such as email or telephone, rather than through a public forum.
So Nintendo's own official site does not condone the exchange of their own Wii codes or DS friend codes? That... that doesn't make sense.
The party line from the get-go has been that Nintendo WFC (still hate that name) lets you play with people you know in real life. If you have an existing friendship with someone, you're already going to have another method of swapping codes with them, be it meeting up IRL or calling them on the phone or whatever.
It's fairly clear that faceless Internet people/message boarders aren't in Nintendo's scheme for how it approaches online. This isn't news by any stretch of the imagination.

Considering their reluctance to actually make a fucking online game, or for that matter allow someone else to make one, they apparently only want Wii codes used for the Mii parade.

Yes, I agree that nintendo's policy sort of makes sense. However, I don't really know how avoiding sharing online really protects anyone.
If anyone can enlighten me, I'd appreciate it.

Advising people to not trust random internet people isn't a bad thing, btw.
Death Ray Machine, If you want to start a thread to discuss Nintendo's stance toward sharing friend codes outside your circle of IRL friends, then feel free to do so. But this thread was too poorly constructed from the get-go to serve that purpose.
In the future, please DO NOT make a new thread just to post a link to something. New topics should open up with a clear topic you want to discuss. Links can be added, as needed, to support your post.

Let 'em eat fucking pineapples!
Now that you mention it, I've never seen anyone talk about posting there or sharing stuff they've found from there.
August, that reminds me of Tycho's news post from a while ago about people driving cars and drawing penises to your kids' DS.
Don't tell anyone.
It doesn't count if the lights are off!
why did i read that as mole-stars?
oh wait..
Yes.
I know how it is spelled.
Thank you.

sorry, I'm a dick about that kind of thing.
Sure it does. No one ever plays games online except with their real life friends, so they shouldn't need to exchange friend codes online.
At least, that seems to be Nintendo's position.

What are you talking about.
Are you still believing that stupid rumor.
If anyone can enlighten me, I'd appreciate it.
I don't beleive you, you're probably lieing just to get my credit card details.
All of it?
