Shipping Items Home

I was thinking of just bringing a duffel bag onto the plane with just my clothes and what not and any souvenirs i get from the event, that i buy, or whatever, could just be boxed up and sent to my address to wait for me to get home. I was wondering if anyone has done this or could tell me why it would be good/bad. It seems great to me so i don't have to worry about anything getting too broken on the plane or squished in my already packed bag.

I've done it. I liked it. There's a FedEx right in the convention center and they were very helpful when it came to picking out the right box so nothing would be crushed. We (hubby and me) sent it out Sunday and the box made it home before we did on Tuesday. Nothing was crushed or wrinkled. Obviously, the more you have and further you go, the pricier it gets. But it's something we plan on doing again this year to save space.

I sent home a box of goodies during my first PAX. I went through the hotel to do so and it was a nice little convenience.

The only problem you might find, and this totally depends on when you fly home, is actually finding a way to ship them given that everything will be closed Monday for the holiday.

Last year I had an early morning SNAFU at the airport and I wasn't able to check in my baggage, so all I had was stuffed into my carry on bag. I ended up shipping stuff through the post office and it worked out incredibly well. My hotel had a Large Flat Rate Box (12x12x5.5) on hand and they let me borrow some packing tape. I was able to stuff all my swag (including several shirts) plus some stuff from my bag into that box pretty easily. I took it to the post office a few blocks from my hotel near Pike Place and shipped it off for about $16 bucks. It was actually cheaper than checking in a bag, plus it arrived the next day since I'm from California!

Obviously this won't work if you leave on Monday and it kinda depends on how much (and what) you end up obtaining. But yes, I definitely recommend shipping post-PAX.

If you don't mind me asking, what was the SNAFU? I don't want to get screwed up at the airport since my schedule is pretty tight as it is.

Hopeful First Time Attendee of PAX Prime 2014.

Alaska Airlines (and from what I understood, probably everyone else) has a very firm cutoff for checking in baggage. It needs to be checked in 45 minutes before the departure time. We got there no later than 5 minutes after the cut off and they stonewalled me. They would absolutely not take it. So it was either ditch the check in bag or wait for the next flight. (With my luck, I ditched the bag but I got to the gate too late and missed the flight anyways hah).

So if you're checking in a bag, don't miss the cut off.
