    It was a complaint about the too-similar backgrounds. In editing, it's sometimes called a jump-cut, where the following shot is too visually similar to the previous one.

    A jump cut is a cut in film editing where the middle section of a continuous shot is removed, and the beginning and end of the shot are then joined together. The technique breaks continuity in time and produces a startling effect. Any moving objects in the shot will appear to jump to a new position.

    In classical continuity editing, jump cuts are considered a technical flaw. Most cuts in that editing style occur between dissimilar scenes or significantly different views of the same scene to avoid the appearance of a jump. Every effort is made to make cuts invisible, unobtrusive.

    Your knowledge of the term may differ. But I go by what I was taught.

    again, ignoring the simple fact that you made the worst joke ever, nothing about even your fake definition of jump cut applies there. you bolded the part that showed that you were wrong. it was just a cut from one person in one location to another person in another location. it wasn't trying to avoid the appearance of a jump. you remain wrong.

    The little guy makes me laugh too. He's sleeping thru the night now which is great. I need to get a new picture though, that one is about 3 weeks old... his ears are coming up now, mostly.. he's got about 1.5 ears I guess. :^:

    it would be more accurate to describe that as a cross cut, as the two scenes are meant to be happening simultaneously.

    still not entirely accurate though, because it's just the two frames.

    The backgrounds are too visually similar, and the shot compositions are identical. This creates in the viewer's mind the idea that they are witnessing the same location, and the subject has changed appearance (hence, the jump). The best you could argue is that it is a match-cut. But the connection is not appropriate.

    I'm sorry if this is diffucult for you.


    edit: should I switch to Understanding Comics terms? They would probably fit better here, but the principles are the same.
