Phallout: The Falla
War. War never changes. When atomic fire consumed the earth, those who survived did so in great, underground vaults. When they opened, their inhabitants set out across ruins of the old world to build new societies, establish new villages, form new tribes. As decades passed, what had been the American southwest united beneath the flag of the New California Republic, dedicated to old world values, democracy and the rule of law.
As the Republic grew, so did its needs. Scouts spread east seeking territory and wealth in the dry and merciless expanse of the Mojave Desert. They returned with tales of a city untouched by the warheads that had scorched the rest of the world and a great wall spanning the Colorado River. The NCR mobilized its army and set it east to occupy the Hoover Dam and restore it to working condition. But across the Colorado, another society had arisen under a different flag. A vast army of slaves, forged in the conquest of 86 tribes: Caesar's Legion.
Battles rage on the Colorado. The NCR digs in its heels and prepares for what is to come. The Legion does not retreat either. Across the River, they gather strength. Campfires burn, training drums beat.
You were a courier. You still are. Working for the Mojave express, you came to bring a mysterious package to a seemingly empty research facility. You've been in stranger situations, but not many. As you make it to the top floor you find yourself surrounded by... people? Bipedal robots with brains in jars on top of their heads, at least. They tell you that they're scientists and that they need you. You've got your body. They don't. They need it. Intact, of course. They're not going to kill you. But they are offering you a chance to change the past. Dying there would mean you really do die, though.
They tell you they've made 'great breakthroughs' on some Old World tech. By passing superheated plasma through coils of specially processed alloy and then placed around a doorway, a portal can be opened. Retrieval is still questionable, but the test would be for a good cause.
The scientists want to undo the destruction of Boulder City. Everyone in the Mojave knows that the NCR blew it up after being overrun by Caesar's Legion, reducing the town to rubble and slowing the Legion's advance greatly.
If you do well here, more tests can be done. More things can be changed. Bigger things. The fight for Hoover Dam itself. Maybe war can change?
