Guitar Hero dev merging with Infinity Ward, team given knives as leaving presents

The closure of a studio is never something to celebrate, but at least the Neversoft team went out in a (quite literal) blaze of glory.

The Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero developer was closed today and the team is being merged with Infinity Ward, as was announced back in May.

The new mega-studio will presumably be dedicated to Call of Duty, which is being handled by Sledgehammer Games this year while Infinity Ward bulks up. With Treyarch still tied to the franchise, Activision is now operating a three-year development cycle for the franchise.

To commemorate the closure of their studio, the Neversoft team ritualistically set fire to their iconic skewered eye logo.

This is a sad day. The early Tony Hawk games were stellar and they made what is still one of the most fun Spider-Man games of all time.

Let's pour one out for a company that helped define the PS/N64 generation.

    They do still have Tony Hawk, the HD remake wasn't made by Neversoft. Also they have the Transformers and Spider-Man games.

    After making Guitar Hero Pig-man cometh, they were shifted to CoD map packs. That's what they've been stuck doing since and now they are officially no more and are part of Infinity Ward stuck in CoD limbo.

    The last Tony Hawk game they developed was Proving Ground in 2007. From 2007-2010 they were stuck with Guitar Hero. They made eight Guitar Hero games in that short time. Crazy. :?

    Sadly, since 2010 Raven has been relegated to a CoD map pack and dlc developer.

    This is really depressing. Many was the night in college spent playing Tony Hawk 2 until my fingers ached.
