Quick/Unusual Housing Question

Alright - I need a bit of advice or at least some objective opinions...

Currently I live in the 1st floor of a house that we rent. It's me, my wife, and my wife's mother, along with my son. We took her mom in as a roommate in order to give us a second set of hands with our son while my wife was back in college. Now, we basically told her mother we'd be here for about 2 years, thinking that my wife would take about 2 years to finish her degree. That was a year ago.

Now, we found out that my wife is actually going to be done a year early and able to work in the fall. Along with that, my father is moving to Korea for work and offered us his house (a 3 bedroom double wide) for free for as long as he's overseas (at least 2 years) with us just paying for heat and their lot rent of $225.

Here's the issue - first of all, we'd have to switch daycares and we love our current daycare. Second, it's a bit in the boonies so while the actual mileage of our commutes might not change, the roads in the winter might be a bit shittier. Finally, we'd have to break it to her mom that we want to move a year early. The biggest thing is we just moved last year, we'd move this year, and then likely move again in about 2 years.

On the plus side, we'd save about $400 a month, have no upstairs neighbor, be in a smaller/quieter town, and have a place of our own. Are there any other factors we should look at? Am I looking a gift horse in the mouth?

Well, obviously you may want to look at the community you'd be moving into. Maybe ask your father about his neighbors or ask the neighbors about the community (assuming, of course, that you haven't already lived there in the past).

Other things to consider are crime rates, range to conveniences like stores, gas stations, entertainment facilities. Also, the range to schools if your son is going to be starting/continuing his education within the next couple years. Also, emergency services like Police/Fire/Ambulance/Hospitals are always something to consider for your family's and your own safety, and additionally your range to a fire department or even hydrant can have an effect on insurance rates (if applicable).

As for the road quality during winter, how boonie are we talking? Dirt Roads, Gravel Roads, or by boonie do you mean "slightly off a main highway?"
