hey i just thought id rely this to you guys. i dont know how credible it is but its worth a shot anyways. http://www.qj.net/index.php?pg=49&aid=89017
or http://wii.ign.com/articles/779/779325p1.html
it seems that the guitar hero that redoctane is releasing on the Wii is not a port of GH2 as we previously thought, but rather an incarnation of GH3 that is slated to be multiplatform.
i hope hmxmoss can come in here and shed some light on this.

I doubt the Wii version will be any different from the 360/PS3 version. Just worse graphics and friend codes.
Guitar Hero 2 for Playstation 2 launched 11/7/2006, Xbox 360 launched 4/3/2007 and both items are shipping now. Please check www.guitarherogame.com and www.redoctane.com for the most current information.
Guitar Hero 3 for the Playstation 2, PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii are currently scheduled for release in the United States in Fall of 2007.
So, aside from people who only own a Wii, there's likely to be zero reason to buy the Wii version, no? I don't expect we'll see any unique/different controls.

If the guitar comes in the form of a Wiimote attachment, it'll be wireless. Aside from that, there probably won't be anything special. Though it would be cool if the characters waggled along with you.
Well, no reason...aside from the fact the game will probably cost no more than half of the 360/PS3 versions if you don't hsve the guitar controller already.

I imagine the guitar controller will be a lot cheaper.

sorta debunked in the GH2 or Rock Band thread a while back
You don't have to worry about cords, wireless transmitters, battery slots, a motion sensor. The guitar would be cheaper to make. You'd just plug a remote in and have several vital parts. And since it would be cheaper to make it would be cheaper to buy.

The only thing that would make the Wii version's controller cheaper in this case is the motion sensor. And let's face it, the motion sensor in the guitar controllers is a cheap piece of junk, and it's not driving up the cost.
Aside from that, there's no real difference between a controller that plugs into a Wii remote and one that plugs into the console. Rather than being cheaper, it would just end up having wireless at no additional cost (which would be nice).
I'm really excited that GH3 is coming out for the PS2 as well, as I absolutely will not be able to afford a new console this year. And isn't the 80s version coming out soon? Does that mean I can get two new GH games this year?
Moss is Harmonix, not Red Octane, so he won't really have anything to say on it. I posted this this morning on our site, but the text has since been altered on the RO site.
Needless to say, it's exciting but not surprising. I hope every platform ever made gets to play Guitar Hero. :^:
I think the question is: Will the Wii version have the same DLC?
I doubt it. 512 MB of internal memory and Nintendo's "can't play from SD" stance don't bode well for DLC.
The only way I can see this working is if the Wii starts letting you run from SD or a USB hard drive.

You can, but it makes you look like a fucking idiot, since the game ships with more content than the ps2 version and has the promise of future DLC.
I just don't understand the "OMG, GH on the Wii!" reactions, since most of us, if not all of us, probably also own a ps2/3 or xbox360.

If I can play songs from my SD card while playing ExciteTruck, why couldn't I do this?
Yes, but I imagine that streaming music from SD is easier than running code from it.
Also, you can't run VC games or Wii apps from SD.
What about downloading the actual code to the internal memory and running it off there, while the actual songs themselves are on the SD card, would that work?

My PS2 crapped out before Guitar Hero really hit the shelves.
I don't own a PS3 or a 360.
If you don't mind, I'd like to say, "OMG, GH on the Wii!"

must not flame...must not flame...must not flame...
no, not everyone has a 360 or a ps2. not even close to what can be considered "everyone" has the former or will by the time GHIII comes out.
why did you even mention the ps2 anyways? why not just say buy the 360 version? isn't that what you're trying to say? what with DLC and all of that. c'mon, say it. you know you want to. do it. doooo it.

That said, I can think of one reason to go Wii over the rest of the next-gen systems, and that's avoiding the $10 Next-Gen Tax. DLC will be the ultimate differentiator, though.
Plus you could argue that since the 360 version of Guitar Hero 2 that recently came out has downloadable content there shouldn't be any reason for a sequel because you could download the songs that it would have had. There have not been Wii or PS3 versions yet though so if anything those seem more necessary.

But see, the whole thing started because you can replace the "Wii" in that quote with PS2 or PS3, and it still is a valid statement.
The only one with an except seems to be the 360 due to DLC.
So, why try to single out the Wii?
Edit: whoops, just remembered, the PS3 has DLC, too. doesn't it?
I'll buy GHIII for whatever the best system it comes out on is (that I own). Right now, that'd be the Wii. In another 5-6 months, that might be the 360.
It coming out on the Wii is a good thing for people who only have a Wii as their current gen system right now. As far as I can tell, that's a good sized amount of people on the forums.
Additionally, maybe the Wii version could have you rocking out with your Mii or use WiiConnect24 to do something cool. There is also the chance for online by that point too.

You have to understand though, that there are a lot of people who either just have a Wii, or also own a PS2, but don't have a GH controller/game already. I'm assuming the Wii version will be better than the PS2 version.

Because streaming music is different than running executable code.

What does new song data have to do with executable code?

Yup! The 360 and PS3 have pre-existing example of DLC patching new content into existing games, whereas the Wii doesn't. I don't think it's impossible for the Wii version to have it, but if it didn't or it was gimped due to SD card limits the other versions would have a clear advantage.
It's interesting; in my mind, unless something spectacular is enabled (like a cheaper guitar), the Wii version generally loses its advantage with motion controls, but then the 360/PS3 versions also lose their advantage with HD visuals (because really, seeing the fretboard in 720p isn't going to change anything). The only real difference to me is the DLC available, and if nothing comes from that, shit, I'm sticking to the PS2 because I still have my two guitars ready to go.
And I don't know how feasible onilne co-op is, given the confliction between that and Rock Band. Like Kor said, we'll just have to wait and see when actual details surface. :P
i will get it for the wii because simply put the thing is easier to carry around that the 360. that and i'm not sure if i'll even have a 360 by that point (but i'm planning on it). DLC be damned.

Guitar Hero 3 will have the worst song selection so far.
I know this because it is the first one I will be able to play, and because I never get nice things.
