Can't seem to find a Boarding House anywhere in the south east.

Evil_MuffinEvil_Muffin Registered User regular
I do not know if my google fu is too weak, or the term has changed over the years. I was looking for a boarding house to stay at for a couple months pretty much anywhere in the south east of USA, just to get away for a while, but all I can seem to google up are regular hotels, or super high end bed and breakfast type deals. I know boarding houses aren't nearly as popular anymore, but I find it hard to believe literally every one of them has gone out of business. Anyone know what I am doing wrong search wise?

I could be wrong but I think the term you are looking for nowadays is "hostel."

Really? I thought a hostel was only for college age kids who were traveling, and I did not think food was provided. I also thought the rooms were mostly shared, not individual rented rooms.

They are apparently also called "rooming houses" now. Much of what I've found from a cursory search consists of historical landmarks and so forth, but it might help your search a bit. I also pulled up a site called shelterlistings.org, but it looks like that is for people who are low-income. Still, it says they have some of that type of facility scattered throughout the site, so you may want to poke around and see what you can find.

    Try AirBnB

can you feel the struggle within?

I don't think there's an age requirement. And I think it depends on the place. I've seen hostels that provide meals and have private rooms, but those are def more expensive than places that do shared rooms (some places do both). Do some poking around in them and you may find what you're looking for. Also, AirBnB is a solid idea too, as Six suggested.

If you're looking for a place that will give you 3 squares and a bed for not a lot of money, those don't really exist anymore.

If you're just looking for isolation, a cabin in the Appalachians near a small town could be an option, though you'll have to take care of food on your own.

I've used AirBnB for about 2 weeks, for a trip to Glasgow. It worked out really well and was cheaper than I otherwise could have stayed in the city, but that really depends on your price range. I'm also not sure you can pay as you go that way.

I believe the old-timey phrase you were looking for was "three hots and a cot".

    The point remains, though.

    If your goal is:

I want to get raped and murdered/eaten by a bunch of hill billy cannibals; then yes that is certainly an option.

I carry my gun with me most everywhere I go, and have a little bit of training, so while I do feel that I would get raped and or murdered/eaten by a bunch of hill billy cannibals, I feel my chances of at least taking one with me are fair to good......
