Another day, another Namco Museum, right? Wrong! This one is marginally different! Namco Bandai Games announced today that they're bringing yet another Namco Museum to store shelves, this time for the Nintendo DS.
However, this one contains the Gamecube multiplayer hit Pac-Man Vs.! Originally designed as a showcase for Game Boy Advance connectivity, the four-player game was designed by Shigeru Miyamoto and sold as a bonus with a number of Namco Gamecube games.
Multiplayer wi-fi battles can be waged with a single DS cart. Oh, it includes Dig Dug and Xevious and some other stuff, but no one cares about that! Pac-Man Vs.!!!
I hate to say it, but, I agree with Kotaku on this one, Pac-Man Vs. was awesome when you had the people and equiptment necessary for it, and a DS rerelease is awesome news. Sure, Dig Dug + Xevious is great too, but not a patch on portable WiFi PMVS Ds.
But...I think I'll stick with the Gamecube edition. Its best as a party game.
You're probably right, but 4 player local WiFi would be pretty close.
The DS's would cramp the party style. On the cube, it was three people on one screen and one poor bastards on the GBA. It created a social environment. And, it was a reasonable amount of hardware for one person to own.
One player was pacman the rest were ghosts or something?
I'm intrigued. The GF loves pacman and also has a DS.
Yup. The player who was Pac-Man had the GBA, and it looked like a regular version of Pac-Man to them. The ghost players used GC controllers, and had a limited 3d-esque view of the maze, so couldn't see Pac-Man at all times. It worked really well. It was bundled with various Namco releases, or in the case of R:Racing, R:Racing was bundled with Pac-Man Vs. :P
I still say that whenever Mario yells, "Fruit appear!" it sounds like he's saying, "Fruit appeal!"
Also, when he says "Lets-a go!" in certain games it sounds like "Mexico!" but that's another story.
The Cube version is awesome. It makes me miss my GBA so much. I just wish there were more boards. I think the game on wifi would be cool, though it would be missing the party atmosphere of it's big borther. Still a win, though!

Hell, I'd love a rerelease of all the GBA<>GC connectivity games with DS compatibility.
