Apparently WOTC is making MTG for "dumb babies" by simplifying card design so the game is easier for new people to enjoy, at least according to another forum I am reading less and less of as time goes by.

Really if I had a dollar for every time (X) IS GOING TO KILL MAGIC!!! was posted, I would be fuck you rich.
Magic is, in many ways, a better game than Hearthstone. It has more interaction and it's strategically much deeper. And it has huge inertia on its side. However, it's online client is herpes. Just the absolute worst. One of the great things about paper magic is that you don't actually have to know all the rules to play--you can just muddle through. But the client makes you be explicit about every passing of priority, every stop in every phase, and so on, and the result is it doesn't even really work unless you're a serious player. And then it's also orders of magnitude more expensive! I like Magic a lot, but honestly, I don't see how it could possibly compete for casuals and for online play--if I were recommending a game for a new player, it'd be hearthstone over magic any day of the week. And casuals and online play seem like the big future markets. So yeah: prognostication is grim.

I have a box of Magic cards from before Belasco and I got married. I wonder if they're worth anything...
edit: I suspect they are not. I feel like someone might have gone through and removed anything powerful, years ago. I assume there's no value attached to them merely because of their age?
It is sad how easy it is for me to watch a bunch of tv episodes in a row. This is what I get for not really watching TV for years, I have no self-control in the face of Netflix!
Happiness is within reach!

duels of the planeswalkers tho
Duels improves on ease of use but only by significantly gimping the game, and once the game is gimped that way you may as well get more out of hearthstone.
I mean, if they ever manage to create an online, duels-type experience that has the depth of the full magic card pool but yet also the requisite ease of use, and then doesn't cost $Texas to get into, then they'll have the ultimate product. But nothing in their line really looks like that now, or like it could be that soon.

I feel the world selfie needs to be stricken from common English before it replaces the word photo entirely.
Agreed. I have a few photos of myself going back some years which I feel I should delete just in case someone calls them selfies. I don't think I've ever used that word

Probably not then, if someone removed all the cards that had value.

BBC news reported on a family getting a "selfie" with Obama at Stonehenge and then showed what was clearly just a photo taken by somebody not in the photo at all. I will complain to my MP.
