So I'm turning 30 on Monday, and since I'll likely be receiving a good chunk of change I've decided to get a Playstation 4. There's games comin out down the line that I know I want (Evolve, Assassin's Creed Unity, Bloodborne, and others), but as I rarely follow consoles I don't have, I find myself unaware of what games are even out at the moment.
Can anyone recommend games to pick up when I get the console?
Things to consider - I'm not huge on first-person shooters in the vein of Halo, so Destiny probably wouldn't be something I would enjoy, but I love third-person action/adventure games, I'm a big Assassin's Creed fan, and have been known to enjoy Dark Souls games (despite being super bad at them). I also enjoy a platformer now and again if it's done well or has a good hook to it. I love horror movies and horror games, but play them rarely due to being a big diaper baby.
Also, is the Playstation 4 not region locked in the same vein as the 3? Not a pressing issue, but there were a couple of import games I was able to enjoy on the 3 and it'll be good to know if I'll have that option moving forward.

Also Diablo 3 is suppose to be a really great port if you havent already played it i suggest it.
You might also like Watch_Dogs.
The PlayStation 4 isn't region locked, AFAIK. The PlayStation 3 had region locking, but only one game was ever region locked for it (Persona 4 Arena), with all other games being region-free.
Also, there are a lot of good indie titles on the system - Rogue Legacy, Don't Starve, Transistor, Sportsfriends (and that actually has a very fun party game you play physically - Johann Sebastian Joust).
And if you are interested in MMOs at all, the PS4 port of FFXIV is excellent. (I may, well, perhaps be using my PS4 pretty much for playing that game...)
Aside from that, definitely check out AC Black Flag if you haven't already, along with Watch Dogs.
Yes, I've played The Last of Us, but I may get Remastered just because of how much I loved that game. Same goes for AC Black Flag. I've also been a PS+ subscriber for a while now because it's super hype.
I'd forgotten about Shadow of Mordor and will definitely be getting that.
I love MMOs but tried FFXIV and wasn't super impressed. I didnt love the first Infamous but maybe I'll enjoy Second Son.
I'll check out that Kotaku list too.
It's also worth noting that the pc version of Evil Within apparently requires 4 GB of VRAM, so unless you recently spent a king's ransom on your PC, it's PS4 or bust there.
I'll defintiely be loading up PT, which from what I've seen must stand for Pooped Trousers.
But I might let her play first because she'll be more excited about it than me and sometimes when I've played a game I can get kind of "coachy" and while nobody's ever said anything about it I'd be it can be kind of annoying.
Diablo 3: Ultimate Evil Edition
Infamous: Second Son/First Light
Watch Dogs
Shadow of Mordor
The Last of Us Remastered
Transistor

Isn't 2k15 coming soonish?
I know you mentioned not being a fan of FPS games, but I'd recommend renting Killzone Shadowfall if only to see how goddamn amazing it looks. I picked it up used for like $15 from gamefly, and while the gameplay itself is whatever, the vistas and set pieces (at least in the first few missions, haven't played much yet) are incredible.
I also really enjoyed Ground Zeroes; I played the hell out of it on PS3, then bought it off of PSN (still might be on sale for like $13) to play more of. Looks great, fun systems to goof around with. It's basically a big demo, and if you beeline through it you'll be done in under an hour. However, there are a bunch of really fun side missions, things to collect, and little easter eggs and secrets to find. I'd recommend it, even if you're not an MGS fan.
Today, actually
The system looks so nice, and I love the controller.
speaking of... can PS3 people play with PS4 folks? i assume not, but figured i'd ask.
Pretty sure the Pre Sequel is only PS3 / 360 / PC. Nothing "next-gen" yet.
Also, @Inx, if you travel much, maybe consider picking up a PSVita - remote play is the coolest sort of digital witchcraft. That, plus a shed load of "free" PS+ games makes it a pretty amazing companion gadget.
