Jon Stewart is going to make "short-form digital content" for HBO, and HBO has first refusal on anything else he does.

Ladies, gentlemen, I come before you a man who has made his pilgrimage to the holy land.

Sadly, it was on a Sunday, so I didn't see anyone around to beg for a tour or access to the gift shop (is there a gift shop?), but on a whirlwind trek through New York, it was awesome to go by all the same.

I cannot imagine how tired some of the staff must be of subway. You don't have a place that conveniently located and not abuse it until you can't stand to look at another.

A week, maybe a week and a half?

    Welp

Hope he's alright - he'll probably be, but appendectomies are a world of hurt, or so i'm told (gators don't have appendixes apparently)

  • Options

Well depends on what type he had. Like if his appendix burst yeah they would have had to do the full stomach muscle cut surgery. If it hadn't burst yet, he should be fine in ten days tops. Able to do most things no more than 3 or 4 days later.

Well they expect him back tomorrow so it couldn't have been that bad? Although I can't imagine that laughing is at all good for recovery from that type of surgery.

Yeah no, torso surgery any kind of laughing or coughing is bad. I screwed up with my pain meds and ended up throwing up and yeah that hurts as much as you'd imagine it would. Bonus you have to be careful not to rip the stitches out when you're vomitting.

It's amazing what they can do with minor incisions and recovery time is great now. But it still is painful and you have to be careful in recovery. That all goes out the window if they had to get the appendix in the traditional way because that involves cutting stomach muscle and the recovery shoots up to the months region for full functionality.

When my little sister had appendicitis, she went to the hospital, was dianosed, had it removed, and was back home all while I was asleep. (when I went to bed, i knew she was feeling sick, but that was it.)

When it's caught early, it's a wonderfully minor thing.

I remember reading an article that said it's actually better to treat the appendix with abs instead of surgery. We just use surgery because its been the solution for like a hundred years.

We still use surgery cause we've gotten it to the point that it's not really a big thingie to do. It's true that we've recently become interested in non-operative appendicitis treatment, but turns out it's just not good enough to warrant stopping appendectomies.

Hockey players will play with a burst appendix, a broken face and no teeth.

I feel a lower barrier for pain levels might be needed lol

The HBO thing is a really smart move and I'm curious to see how it plays out, and the Jon Steward segmented format is perfect to test it with. Take LWT for example. I've actually never watched an episode of it on TV and yet I've pretty much seen it all on mobile or my laptop through legitimate channels. If they released a specialised,ad supported app or portal to view that kind of content (separate from YouTube) I'd use it.

I hope Trevor is okay. But...they expect him at work today?!? When I got my appendix out in 2012 (via lap, didn't open me up) I got sent by my PCP to the ER in the evening and they determined I needed surgery and I had it early the next morning. I don't think they let me out for THREE DAYS. And my appendix hadn't burst yet. I wanted to go home so bad :(

Depending on what time he had it he's still in the period of time where they wouldn't let me have anything by mouth. INCLUDING WATER. I was kept hydrated by IV, but that is so weird and upsetting, to be told you can't drink water.

    It was mostly a joke.

Also based on people being lazy. Because if I had a restaurant literally attached to where I work, that place would probably get a lot of business based purely on not wanting/needing/having time to go elsewhere.

Also also depends on the 'blocks' in question. North/South 'blocks' are tiny. Progressing from 11th to 7th Avenue takes considerably longer.

Another "God damn that sucks" from John Oliver and the American fucking our citizens system. I do know in Washington state we got rid of parole (you now do slightly longer than with parole but you're out free and clear), sadly they want to bring it fucking back because of course we do.

I like the idea of parole in theory (good behavior, shows signs of reform or w/e, out early with spot-checks to follow-up) but hearing the reality for many situations is just SMH.

My wife, on hearing about Pennsylvania's system last night: "That's just extortion."

  • Options
    PreacherPreacher Registered User regular
Yeah in theory parole is good. In practice its just a way to geek people and put them back in prison. Not to mention there have been several examples of at least female prisoners being forced to fuck to stay out and that does not seem good at all.

Reminded me of a this from when I was in jail.

Had a guy in our unit, low level drug offense. Kept to himself , did everything asked of him, got released.

Was back on our unit 2 weeks later. Asked him what happened.

They had released him with nothing, and his only option on release was a cheque he had, and he had begged for his early release to just be delayed til the monday.

But, they dropped him in the middle of nowhere, on a Friday night, at 7pm, in December, in Canada.

So after freezing for a day, he grabbed a rock, smashed a store window, and sat down and waited for police to arrive.

He came back to jail literally because he was going to freeze to death.
