Platform Adventure Games?

edited April 2007 in Games and Technology
The limbo thread and the re-discovery of Heart of Darkness prompted me to open this thread. I love these platform adventure games. I recently purchased the Another World re-release (Hi-res graphics, improved sounds and the extra levels from the later versions) for PC and loved it to bits. It only took me about an hour to run through it again but I loved every last second of it!

So what games are there like this? No matter how old! I've got a hankering to play through some. Up to now I can think of:

Another World
Heart of the Alien
Heart of Darkness
Flashback
Abe's Odyssey (I only ever played the demo of this and LOVED it)

Can anyone think of any others (Old, new, public domain, indie...anything)?

Oh... Another World was apparently an alternate name for Out of This World. Psychonauts then.

I think Blackthorne, one of Blizzard's older games, falls under this category. I had the SNES version, but it may have come out for other systems as well. It's a very good game.

Also, though they may fall more under the puzzle category, The Lost Vikings games are very good and also by Blizzard.

edit: And how could I forget the original two Prince of Persias?

Abe's Exodus as well, they are both great games.

Cheers, I clean forgot there was a sequel.

I never much liked the 3d one though.

I had Blackthorne on PC "back in the day" and it was tons of fun back then... I wonder how it holds up today...

And while we are on the topic of Blizzard how about The Lost Vikings...

*edit* apparently Blackthorne was available on SNES, 32X, MS-DOS, GBA, Mac according to wikipedia.
    *edit2* Gah, beat'd in a post I quoted

I'm not sure if I'm doing this right, but the Sly Cooper games sound like they'd be up your alley.

How in the hell did I forget Prince of Persia?! I've played the first one and the 3d ones to death (other than the first, pc, 3d one. That was awful).

And yep, I'm largely looking towards 2d only (so probably older games I've missed).

I've never actually tried psychonauts yet, or looked in to it at all. I'll google when I get home.

Ico/Sotc. Not straight up platformers, but they seem to belong right alongside these atmospheric, slightly-off-the-beaten-path games.

    Cheers for the suggestions guys:

ICO/SOTC - I'd agree with both of these (and have completed them both, which is rare for me and video games!)
Prince of Persia Snes - Was there any difference between the SNES and other versions other than prettier graphics?
Oddworld - I'm hunting around for this in local stores.
Seiklus - Definitely looks like fun! This'll be the next one I try (the price is right). With any luck it'll run under parallels well enough (I don't like using my pc for gaming, it's in the kitchen and it's cold).
Super Paper Mario - I'm going to kill you for suggesting this. Kill you dead. I want it bad. (I'm in England, also known as Nintendo-treat-us-a-bit-poo country. I am importing it though).

I found Heart of Darkness on the way home last night and played it for a good few hours last night. I'm currently battling my way through the first CD and am in some underground caves with worms that keep munching on me, strange piranha style tiny fish that eat me and giant venus fly traps that devour me. I must have died no less than 50 times so far.

    Awesome.

::Edit:: I also remembered Prince of Persia and Prince of Persia 2 are unlockables in the Xbox PP:SOT, so I'll be playing those through too.

    Obligatory Cave Story mention.
    Within A Deep Forest.
Knytt. (not that much gameplay as such... but if you enjoy exploration and atmosphere you'll fall in love)
Also, the second Prince of Persia; I thought it was superior to the first in every way.

seiklus is so fucking awful i want to punch a little child just for thinking about the time i wasted beating that game.

seriously I wouldn't even call that a game just a piece of shit no one should ever play.

unless you know, you are into pointless games drawn in ms paint.

Well, I saw Abe's Odyssey for £6.99 used in Gamestation, that's about the cheapest I could spot it. It is Buy One Get One Free though and if I hadn't picked up Heart of Darkness yesterday I would have gotten that too.

I'm not sure what other game to get there, are some mega cd games (Cobra COmmand and the other one that came with it), and a couple of megadrive games (Sonic 2) but I'm honestly more tempted by Roadrash on the PS1. Or maybe Tekken 1!

oooh, so many games and so little time. Methinks Heart of Darkness and Oddworld will take up my downstairs-sitting-on-sofa time and the nice freeware games you've all recommended will take up my lying-in-bed-before-I-read-my-book-with-macbook-on-knee-time.

Thanks for all the recommendations, as per usual, keep 'em coming. Freeware, indie or commercial!

(oh and I spotted the sequel in that 2 for 1 offer for Oddworld. Both of them for £6.99. Woot!)
