But for real they had someone dedicated to the netcode/BNW was also already working just fine/actual changes like people at war go in turns instead of all at once based on score.

It took me some years to realize that while the University was full of coolguy science people, they were also kind of unethical assholes who probably did a lot of nasty experiments.

They sort of blew that up to make it more open to player choice I think. You don't have a Miriam who desperately wants to convert the unbelievers, whether to the faith or radioactive vapor is not very important, but you do have dynamic factions each time you play that don't just follow a personality script.

It remains to be seen whether they've kept those great little story messages as you progress along towards victory.

The AC game I distinctly remember the most had me as University, winning overall, obliterating Miriam and I think the Morganites too.

Also it had the Free Drones spawn on a tiny archipelago and they basically never advanced beyond their initial city. I helped them out by, uh, liberating their consciousness from their bodies and then building a new, better city on the remains of the old one.

Oh yeah, I forgot that feature in the OP; you can also launch satellites to provide artillery and comms support to your armies or for non-murder purposes I guess.

Man, they really shouldn't let you click 'play now' on a preloaded game and have it proceed to the 'what version do you want to play' menu that some Steam games have

I have a vitally important pre-load question

It unlocks at midnight-ish tomorrow, and I've got it pre-loaded on my laptop, but my laptop and I mightn't have internet access this weekend. Will I be able to play it after the unlock time passes, or will there be some 5kb patch or something that I'll have to download?

Edit: Internettin' about informs me that it's the latter scenario. Curses!
