I can't wait to do some chaos squad, might have to try that tonight after Arrow.

So yeah, last night's first venture into the game was really fun. I did the first set of available challenges and gold medal'd all of them. Even got highest score in several amongst my friends. The game itself is hilariously fun and I doubt the formula will change much, nor do I want it to change.

Just got 75 million score on Chaos Squad. We had 316% chaos and in the end I racked up 800 kills. Just 10 million shy of getting all 5 dice rolls at the end of the match.

Moving around in this game is so much fun, I actually like doing the traversal challenges (I even have a couple top 10 times). I've never enjoyed the waypoint or race challenges in a sandbox game before.

I especially like how none of the traversal skills have any in world explanation for their existence. Your character just has the ability to slide on power lines, wall run indefinitely and jump 50 feet in the air, all without wearing shoes.

That the game just gives you these abilities without even attempting any justification adds a lot to the over-the-top craziness of the game.

Guys. I was *this* close to buying an Xbox One just now. Finished work. Got the guy who worked the MVG department to go in the back and get a console and copy of Sunset Overdrive and then I held it. I HAD IT IN MY HANDS DAMMIT! Then common sense prevailed and I told myself there are other more important things to take care of first.

    One day, though.

I love my One but if you cant absolutely easily afford it dont get it. Ive learnt the hard way that a sure fire way to ruin a big purchase is with guilt over how you probably shouldnt have bought it

Yeah, I don't know that either next gen console is worth feeling guilty about purchasing yet.

    Early game spoilers.
I was doing the mission to check on the kid's parents where you have to work your way to the top of the building to check the panic room. Once you reach about half way up a giant portal will appear below you if you fall and drop you back at the midpoint. It took me by complete surprise and I loved it.

I also loved the dog mission once you got the cat cannon. When I saw I had to lead the dog home with it I was really dreading the mission. The I encountered the first group of OD and watched the dog tear them to pieces. I didn't want to go back to Sasquatch's.

I would willingly give up all my weapons if I could just keep that one from that mission...

Also, there's really no penalty for dying huh? I mean, you lose some SunnyD cans or something I guess? Not that is bothers me. I love being able to just have mindless fun. It's like a new Saint's Row game!

Oh for reals, I held off because of that. I already have a PS4 thanks to the magnificent Ante on these very forums. An Xbox One isn't needed but this game, it's just hitting all the right buttons.

Everyone keeps making the Sunny D /Overcharge reference. Makes be want to buy some Sunny D. I wonder if they make small enough bottles of it to fit in my Overdrive can cooler.

I've just been putting store-brand orange cream soda in mine.

I'm glad this game is proving to a lot of people what I've been saying for a while now. That Insomniac still has it. Sure, R&C All 4 One was a bit of a misstep (but still fun for a co-op romp), and Fuse wasn't great (but still decent in spite of being focus-grouped to hell). However, I thought R&C Full Frontal Assault was a great spin on both R&C and tower defense (another element that carried over to Sunset), and R&C Into the Nexus was fantastic.

  • PreacherPreacher Registered User regular
Did a chaos squad with Jay last night, it must have been in one of the later areas because holy shit the night defense was insane and we stood zero chance, but still I leveled my ice gun like three times shooting it a couple times. Also my magnum is almost level 5, I just need to unlock this godly boomerang gun everyone is raving about.

I did a chaos squad last night, but in round one 4 people quit. Then one of the remaining 3 afk'd. At the end it was me and the mostly afk/not trying guy before the server kicked me out.

    It was frustrating.

What is this I don't even.

So...I just fought a group of focus test robots while dubstep blasted in the background.

    Yeah.

  • PreacherPreacher Registered User regular
Odd. I do have to say I'll probably stick to the first couple areas for chaos squad after we got annihilated in that later area. I'd rather get more than just the free spin.

Also man sausage party, come on bros you can have a female apocalatar with some serious junk in that trunk!

Can you free-roam post-story as with SR4, for instance? I absolutely loved that game, and if this is anything like those, well, it's promising at the least.

Holy shit these Buck National challenges are insanely hard to gold. I basically had to play like a machine last night in order to Gold the first episode challenge. Episode 2 seems just as hard, but idk if I'm willing to do it before I get more ideal weapons; or should I say, weapons I find even more fun. So far I've gold-medal'd every challenge, some are harder than others (point challenges ugh), and some are just steep in the learning curve department (I took 8 tries figuring out the proper way to do 'The Dude' weapon challenge), and some are laughably easy (Traversal Challenges, or property smashing challenges)

Funny how crazy some of the weapons are.

I was looking through some of the new weapons I gained last night and I actually said.

    "Laser Cannon? Eh...boring."

For the first one my friend informed me I was an idiot and "bounce kills" are kills you get while bouncing, so Bounce and shoot OD, bam you bounce kill, you don't have to slam kill them.

I imagine you could blow through the campaign in 10-15 hours. But with the online mode, side missions, and just how fun it is to grind around the city shooting shit, I can see the game holding the player's attention for a lot longer.

The person who could do the story missions straight, without deviating into some side activity of some sort, is A. laser focused and B. probably sort of a boring person.

I've been trying to focus on the campaign as I'm playing this on a borrowed XBox, but it's so easy to just get pulled into random chaos in single player.

Yeah seriously. Much like how your combo meter takes a bit to warm up, you start out with a couple od just being dicks, and then all of a sudden you have a fucking war and its glorious.

The only negative I see to this game is tying weapon/amp store unlocks to the main campaign. Like with all the side stuff you can do, weapon unlocks for Two Hat Jack should be focused on THAT, not the story missions.

Well, if you can wander around freely once you finish the "story", eh. Figure everyone will do the story, some people would bitch about "having" to do side missions.

I want to say it was a conscious choice to have people play the story instead of the usual "get everything I can before even attempting story mission 2" god knows thats my usual and this game is forcing me to break the habit and its kind of refreshing.
