It's really more like cocaine in my opinion, in that you can have a job and perform it well during its scheduled hours, but when you're home it's cocaine time and nothing's gonna stop you.
I had quit at the end of Cata. Then I jumped in for the last of the Pandaria content. Then quit again. Then decided to renew for a month to check out the pre-WoD event, which was not great. Still had a month of playtime though, so got re-hooked on leveling my battle pets.
Expansion launched, heard positive responses from friends. A week went by, and I was going to just wait until after Christmas to pick it up so I would have more time for it. Then saw that for the 10th anniversary that they were releasing a limited time Molten Core 40 man raid scaled for level 100, with a Corehound mount dropping of Ragnaros, and that I would miss out if I waited.
So, wife gave it to me for an early Christmas present. Gotta say, it's pretty good.

Actually, the mount isn't a drop. It's mailed to everyone who completes the raid. He also drops a special fire crown for your armor speck.
The rare prize I was extremely lucky to obtain as a drop: Hatespark the Tiny.
I love him, he is so tiny and hateful.
And it seems like all is dying, and would leave the world to mourn

There was New Coke as well, but everyone wants to forget about that.

Yep, I knew that the mount and helm are 100% guaranteed, just assumed it would be looted from Rag instead of mailed. Grats on the pet!

The catch is that you have to suffer through level 100 MC to get it.

It'll be awhile before anyone who's run it will reminisce on the good ol' days of 40-man raiding, I imagine.
Ah well, back to my Garrison management simulator!
You're not missing anything. It's exactly a lot of the same stuff that you quit over. I literally played through the first weekend, had none of the DDoS and login troubles other people had, and still quit because it was boring, aggravating resource grinds -- presumably to distract you from the fact that their combat is still just as bland and unfun as it has been for years (while other games have been innovating). Remember that there are games which you go out and kill things not because you need rep, or farmables, but because it is FUN to kill them.
Heroin hero, now for PS4 and other new electronic syringes near you.
Its a Move party game where you have to jab the virtual needle into different parts of your body. Shake the controller to much and you get sent to rehab.

It comes to each victim in a different form but somekind of dragon chase or equivalent always occurs and dragon can never be reached.
Perfect game for those who desperately need to fail once again.

Also it turns you into an asshole.

But I thought I'd dip my toe in. Saw something about battling minipets.
And now I have to be the very best.
Like no one ever was.
