Steam is for the devil

So I buy Half Life 2 along with the usual Half Life game and extras complement package, and I install Steam, enter the CD keys, yadda yadda.

I uninstall it several months later because of software problems on my computer, and now I cant remember my Steam login. So basically all those games I just bought are now bunk. In order to play them again, I need to send in pictures of the CD keys, along with a fruitcake and apple cider to get them. Problem is I don't have a digital scanner and must send in ten bucks just to get them to look at my request

Has anyone else had this same problem and is there any simpler way to play my Half Life series of games again? Or am I forced to pay the fee just to play games I have already bought.

you're also probably going to need to show them a receipt. I tried to get mine activated, since for some reason my copy was already in use, but a picture of the box and cd-key wasn't enough they needed a RECENT sales reciept. so even if I managed to somehow hold onto a 2 year old receipt, it would've been invalid anyways.

also a digital camera is just as good as a scanner, if you have one or know someone who does.

I am surprised there is no way to recover your login and password based on your email address... I would double check for something like that, you may be up shit creek though...

Yea I tried recovering my login but it was awhile ago. I respect the fact that Steam directs all profits to the game developers, but I hate the fact that its so strict. I bought the games, and now I can't play them. Communists lol.
