Also, the ambience here is pretty metal, what with the overwhelming darkness and cold. Hardly a wonder there's so much metal around.
All things considered, I'm not sure how metal Australia is. The country itself is beautiful though it can be quite dry and harsh. The animals can be fairly dangerous however, and are therefore metal.

If it sounds like it's straight out of Brutal Legend, then it's probably at least a little bit metal.
Australia didn't seem very metal when I was there, but I bumped Summoning in the car non stop while I was in New Zealand.
Also, Australia did give us Portal, so you all have to be doing something right:

I have that version of ACoS burned forever in my memory, as I was on the second tier of the Roseland Ballroom when it was recorded/filmed.
I just happened to be in New York on a short vacation right after graduating high school. I visited a friend that was moving into his dorm room at NYU while I was there and he had tickets for the show and his original guest had to back out. At the time about all I knew of them were the songs Pull Me Under and Hollow Years, as those were about the only ones I'd heard on the radio. My pal gave me a DT crash course in the 3 hours or so before we had to catch the subway to get to the show.
One thing I can still picture is Labrie and Petrucci both staring daggers at the actor they had doing the hypnotist parts during the Scenes From a Memory set (he really screwed up the cadence during the opening Regression part and John and James had to both rush their parts to catch up), it was hilarious.
