I also just rewatched R Evolution with friends before watching TLC so the contrast was very harsh

Charlotte and Sasha had an incredible, brutal match that was main event caliber and sold both of their characters perfectly

AJ and Nikki had Nikki steamrolling AJ for 75% of the, already pretty short, match and then Nikki used mace to win, which is a heel move sure but also makes her look weak because she needed it to beat AJ

It was just super disappointing to see the difference between women's matches

Sometimes it's OK for heels to look weak though. AJ was obviously the better wrestler so Nikki cheated to win.

Not done all the time it works.
Except Nikki was totally steamrolling AJ for most of that match

If AJ had been the dominant force then yeah okay sure

but Nikki was running that ring and then AJ managed to start to turn the tide and the second there's trouble WHOOPS MACE after a few months of Nikki looking like a really dominant force

that's how basically every AJ match goes though

she gets steamrolled for 90% of it then sets up her submission hold or hits a shining wizard and wins. It's terrible, terrible booking but that's what happens

being in control of a match against AJ means jack-all

edit: if the announcers were even halfway competent at their jobs, they would point this out

for his health they should probably find a way, though

Also, maybe find a way to put him into meaningful main event angles, so he isn't just doing all this bumping for no reason. Seriously, if they rewarded Dolph, who has clearly worked his ass off for years and everyone sees deserves it, they might actually have credibility with their whole spiel about stepping up and grabbing rings and such.

And what does him having job security have to do with anything?

He's not going to get fired or blamed for TLC being bad (and the next time subscriber numbers come out lower than expected), and Vince has already said publicly he's the only one grabbing that mythical brass ring. So he gets to hold a talent meeting and tell everyone else to step up, even though it's not like that would matter anyway, because everyone else's job is dependent on a shitty Creative team and not actually on match quality or hard work.

I get that but Cena still isn't the problem.

The point is its really easy for Cena to go and say STEP IT UP when he is literally invincible.

Dolph wins WHC and gets hurt its "his fault" even though the dude clearly gives 110% every night comes back and has to start at the bottom.

Cena in that situation would have a 5 pack of promos showing his struggle and work and rehab to get back to 100% and then be put back into the main event upon his return.

Its not Cena's fault Vince loves shoving him down out throats but its real fucking rich that he thinks he can tell you to step it up when others have been pushed aside doing that because Vince doesn't think you should be there.

Also, the fact that the mace knocked AJ completely unconscious was a little...weird. I mean, yeah, it blinds her and she stumbles into Nikki's finisher, sure, fine, I guess, but AJ went down like Sonny Liston and didn't even twitch for like five minutes after the match ended. Are we sure that was mace and not, I don't know, weaponized elephant tranquilizer?

Apparently they're going with "unidentified spray" for now. So it COULD have been weaponized elephant tranquilizer and Nikki Bella is an absolute monster. Or they just don't want to give it much thought so they're leaving it vague. What we do know is, she suffered "chemical conjunctivitis."

I liked how Nikki won her match with cheating, because that's classic heal cheating. Manager distracts ref, wrestler uses illegal weapon, ref returns to match and heel wins.

The tag finish is fine for now as long as it leads to something worthwhile in a match. It has to mean a No-DQ match between Miz and Jey at some PPV because Miz is cheating and hitting on his wife. If it just leads to the Uso's winning the belts back when Miz leaves Mizdow, whats the fucking point? That tag run is leading a loss when Miz abandons Sandow so they shouldn't keep giving us non-finishes. They should make Miz and Mizdow look like a dominant team that won't the belts, but Miz can't stand being second fiddle in the team even though they are winners.

The problem with the interference in the tables match was that it was constant and Cena was still beating Rollins while Rollins should be able to hold his own against Cena especially with two people helping him.

The main event finish was only dumb because of all the big moves they were hitting on each other and getting up from and then it's just a plain Sister Abigail after a shower of sparks. He couldn't at least hit it on a chair?

  • BlankZoeBlankZoe Registered User regular
I think my biggest issue with the ending is specifically the weapon Nikki used

Mace or Knock-Out Gas or Whatever the fuck WWE wants to call it is just lame and makes her look super weak in comparison to the past few months

If she had used a chair or a kendo stick or something she'd still be cheating but would also look strong and badass

but no she sprays something in AJ's face and knocks her out and gets the super easy pin

You know why I really liked Nikki's hairspray mace? Because when AJ and the ref were distracted I thought for sure it was just going to be a cheap roll up pin. That would have pissed me off. The mace/hair spray to the eyes worked for me. Just like getting a handful of "salt" in the eyes. It's tried and true heel tactics.

I like how she got away with having it in her boot the entire time. Ref didn't do his job in making sure they weren't carrying weapons!

The thing is, it isn't a normal heel situation

The WWE women's division is booked terribly and while there are obviously great wrestlers in there most of their matches are super short and filled with dumb sexist shit or faux lesbian eroticism

But Nikki has had some great matches since October and looked really strong and confident and pretty badass, although still not given enough time or a good feud

so having her pull out the mace undermines that when a strong badass lady looking capable and awesome, even if she is a heel, is something WWE absolutely needs more of

It was the death sell by aj that ruined the ending

You know what would have been cool? If Nikki used the mace and AJ kicked out because having your eyes sting doesn't hinder the use of your shoulders. Then you could have Nikki finish her off with some sort of signature strike of hers (give me time I'm sure I'll think of something) as AJ stumbles around blind with her guard lowered. That way you would have had a fighting babyface, a dastardly heel and a finish that gets way more heat.

AJ wasn't maced and then pinned, tho. She was maced, hit with the Rack Attack and then pinned. She didn't stay down because her eyes stung.

The PPV was alright, but so little really happened that I care about.

Kane and Big Show fill 2 matches almost every PPV that are not interesting and don't really advance stories or pay off. At best they're used to stretch stories before payoff. I also don't believe them anymore as credible threats, and almost never does something exciting happen when they are in the ring.

The Cena fight was a foregone conclusion and booked badly for that conclusion. 2 runins, 3 refs, a ref bump and a restart and no one looks good in the end.

I share everyone's opinion on the diva match, though don't mind the mace really.

On it's own the finish to the tag match was fine but with so many screwy finishes it adds to a badly written ppv.

Swagger v Rusev XIV should not have had a powering out of the accolade. Maybe a rope break, maybe a focus on the hurt leg. But if Swagger can just stand up then now everyone can.

Bray v Dean was ok but by this point I was really tired of all the outside/weapon spots and it really diminishes the impact of them if the entire roster is using them. The finish was fine and I would like Bray to have a supernatural ace up his sleeve now and again.

Ziggler v Harper was best in show for sure.

I mean, it pretty clearly wouldn't be introduced as a third title but as Lana's replacement of the US title. And then someone would finally win it off him and turn it back into the US title.

Edit: Ok, "pretty clearly" might be overstating it, but still, I'm quite certain that's how it would go down.
