I can't help but feel Otacon and Emma's relationship was being built up to go to a very skeevy and uncomfortable place until someone in Kojim's team thankfully intervened.
You can still see the signs of it in the game, though.
The amount of male and female fanservice throughout the MGS series is probably nowhere near 1:1, but to the Kojima team's credit, they at least put some amount of absurd sexual pandering with male characters, whereas most other games exclusively do so with female characters.

the only other pistols I've ever held that felt so perfect were single-stack SIGs and the CZ-75, and if I were in a mood to get a gun it'd probably actually be the 75

Not only do they feel good to hold, they feel great to shoot. I shot a few of my brother's Springfield XDs and his 1911. The XDs, despite being 9mm and .40, snapped up whereas the 1911 just pushed straight back. Made it way easier to control.
I'm not sure I would agree the fanservice has been equal. There's a lot more pandering to the male gaze, still. And Raiden's naked moment wasn't framed in a sexual way, it was supposed to be weird, offputting, and disempowering.
Part of me wants Konami to just hit peak horrible and decide that the roi of testing Mgsv for another 3 months isn't worth it and they announce that they're shoving it out the door at e3
In retrospect it bums me out that MGS4 went the "Liquid is not actually possessing Ocelot" route.
Didn't they actually go the "Liquid was actually possessing Ocelot, but then since the unaccountability wasn't worth the loss of control Ocelot had the arm replaced with a prosthetic and just kept appearances up so he could have his cake and eat it too" route, or am I remembering it wrong?
Still a bit of a bummer, though, alongside the whole Vlad nanotech thing.
Ocelot wasn't just acting, he had like psychotherapy done to him and shit to warp his own mind into thinking he was Liquid. Nanomachine stuff might have been involved, too. Ocelot gave himself over to the ruse.
Basically in the last fight Snake is literally beating the Liquid out of him.
