This is a Windows 7 rig. If I start it in Safe Mode, it'll load, and it recognizes all of my hard drives and such. I've been running chkdsk commands on my drives and I've got a virus scan running now, but I'm not really sure how to proceed from here. Any ideas? Never had something quite like this. The fact that it boots into safe mode just fine makes me think hardware or driver.

edit- everything's come back clean. I've also tried system restore, startup repair and windows memory diagnostics tool; system restore didn't work, and the latter two didn't find anything strange.

Problem seems to have been caused by my sound card, of all things.
