Pinny Arcade 2014 - Favorite/Least Favorite Pins

So we got 105 pins in 2014 (assuming my math is right), which as a number sounds absolutely insane. I figured it might be a good idea to see what peopled liked/disliked this year. Create whatever format you want or just use mine if you want. I know pinmash is a thing, but I feel that's more for trade value as opposed to personal attachment.

Favorite Pin of 2014:

It's so sad because I thought this demo was so bland. It's a clear Pokemon clone (and they HATED when I used the P word at first), but that didn't make it a bad game, it just needs more soul to it. The 2D art direction for this game is phenomenal, and the pin shows that, too bad the 3D artists didn't get the memo.

Runner up pins: PAX East Shield, Creepy Doll, Broodax Gabe, Panda Espresso

Least Favorite Pin of 2014:
pin_age_of_empires.png?1
Shocking, I know. I honestly know nothing about AoE so I don't even know if this art is relative to a game, but this just looks like ass no matter which way you look at it. The best thing to come of this is all of the jokes revolving around it (shoutout to @fishfishmonkeyhat‌ on that one).

This was close with Prime 2014's, but Kemperoo just destroys Coffee Kemper. This set is super unique and made me laugh when I first saw it, so it wins.

Biggest Pain in the Ass to get Pin

pin_order_1066.png?1
This is in regard to my first copy of it at least, because after I got this I ended up with two others... go figure. Sony sucked with this one, it was up to the dude in the booth to determine who got it and who didn't. I was walking out of the booth with another guy who wanted the pin, and I asked to see a Large shirt first... which it was the standard shirt, then an XL... which he still handed me a standard shirt (they're too smart for me). I asked what I had to do to get a pin and he let us battle it out in rock paper scissors, where I won, and skipped merrily with the last pin I needed at Prime (except for Tiamat who was given out later that night).

Coolest Pin Idea

pin_garruk.pngpin_corrupted_garuuk.png?1

I'm using all Pinnypals images and yes I'm too lazy to put these closer. I absolutely loved the idea of two pins creating a full image, though the trim around it makes it look a little off, I still love the idea. I do hope to see more like this in the future, but preferably with easy to get pins like these.

Pin you'd like to see in 2015

I'd love to see a pin related to Uncharted 4, preferably starring Drake in some sort of fashion. Naughty Dog obviously likes the pins (since they have two out now, even though one hasn't really been too publicized), so hopefully they continue the trend of having them.

    CatBug
It's my favorite pin because I love everything Cat Bug.
Runner up for me is Leeroy, order and Tiamat

    Least Favorite Pin of 2014:
    AOE
It was sloppy made pin and it's ugly. They gave it out like candy.
    Runner up bard rock.

    Favorite Set:
    Prime Set
It was really awesome with the 80's theme. Kemper was on point and Gabe and tyco.
    Runner up is East set.

    Favorite Staff Pin:
    Mom pin.

Runner up on this has to be Khoo and Jeff's pin.

Biggest Pain in the Ass to get Pin:

    The order 1866

This pin was next to impossible to get. It was stupid random chance. I got my pin Monday. The rest of them I got by trading.
Runner ups are the Next level, Leeroy.
Leeroy I lost my voice to get all of them for me and pin pals. The next level I couldn't get it because they were not giving out books and not giving out stamps.

I can't agree with the AOE hate. It's a simple design, sure. That's not a bad thing. Whilst the intricate stuff on some Pins is cool (Hearthstone cards) it makes a change to have a simple clear design. It's deliberately cartoonish.

That they gave them out freely shouldn't be a point of contention either. Would you prefer they used the same method as The Order Pin?

Actually yes I think every pin should've be given out a fair amount. I rather wait in a long line and know I will get it.
Plus the lines for AOE were super short. You just had to take a photo boom and you get a pin.

This was entirely dependent on the day and who was working the booth. There were a couple times on the last day where my friend tried getting a pin for the photo and all he got was the bandana, the booth people said he had to play the game to get the pin.

Whatever style AOE was going for, it simply didn't achieve it, I'm in the worst pin list, worst pin of all time (I'm calling it now). The perspective is sloppy, the colours are uninspired and the drawing doesn't lend itself to the art style of any AoE game I can find? Am I missing something? The closest cartoony one is Castle Siege but the art in that game is 100x better than the pin. Anyway.

    Favorite Pin of 2014:
Tin Man, just so damn crisp.

Flipped flopped between this and Carl.

More gaming pins in general, tied in with the game itself. Not as long and involved as KI, rather I think it'd be more appropriate to just do 1-2 pins per game, with 1-2weeks where the event takes place to get the pins and that's that.

Holy crap. 105? That's seriously insane.

    Favorite Pin of 2014:

A TIE. I cannot choose between the two, and so I won't. Carl/The Order: 1886.

I'm a sucker for simplicity, and this pin had it. Plus that gold color, and the fact that the game is seriously something I'm very excited for, it was an easy choice. As for Carl, it's just soooooo pretty.

    Least Favorite Pin of 2014:

The Next Level pin was pretty bland, and while I REAAAAALLY dislike the AoE pin, this one is just too "eh" for me to not choose.

    Favorite Set:

I don't think it counts as a "set", but I would choose the Prime 2014 Behemoth pins. If that is not allowed, The sketch set was the nicest looking, I thought.

    Favorite Staff Pin:

    ......pass.

Biggest Pain In The Ass To Get:

While most would say the order, I'm going to go ahead and say that The Next Level was by far the hardest pin to get, if you did it the right way. There are some who did it by...easier methods, but if you were to actually do it yourself, it was nigh impossible.

    Coolest Pin Idea:

The Garruk heads were probably the coolest idea, if only because of the end result.
