Definitely higher next year. I had several locals ask us about PAX when we were wandering around the Riverwalk who enjoy games and wished they'd known about it so they could get tickets. Half the merchants out there seemed shocked to see us too. There were already a lot of Texas folks at this PAX but I imagine there will be a lot more from the immediate area in 2016.
I had a great time this year so I'll be looking out for the dates and booking a hotel early for next time.
Does anyone know what are the odds of the 2016 dates landing on the same time frame? Prime and East have managed to keep their time frames constant (aug-sep) & (march-april). However, Aus had changed its dates after its first show. Think the same will be true for South since it is close to East?
Yeah, it'd be nice to know haha, I went to Best Buy, and got a couple rides from Uber and Lyft and some of the people didn't know PAX was happening but would of attended if they knew about it.

It will be nice to have a better turn out next year to show that the population is serious to the people at the expo. I enjoyed it immensely this year, but hope to see more companies there next year.
Tickets were sold out for every day but Sunday, right? South may have hit the maximum allowed by the safety cap. They're going to expand the building, though.
I will say that going to a PAX and not having to fight crowds was pretty nice.
PAX sold out every day but Sunday, but PAX was barely using half of the convention center, and it is doubling in size via renovation.
They are working on an expansion, but I heard that some of the existing building will be coming down after the expansion is complete. Most of the side that was used for the jewelry expo is supposedly going to be destroyed.

Yea. I was looking at the website about the renovations and that convention center is going to look sharp when it is all said and done. I looked to see if any hotels were going to be built but as of right now it doesn't look likely.

Yeah, the resulting expo post-expansion *and* demolition is going to be about the same size as the BCEC, ish.

The area that made up the queue room and PC area (and, as you mentioned, the other areas towards the front) will be torn down and turned into a park when all is said and done.
From the looks of one of the planning images, the entrance to that section (West as they are calling it) will still be there. But a good chunk of the side/back will be taken out.
That's very interesting, because the local Anime Convention, San Japan, uses the HBG too, so I wondered... 2016 is going to be very interesting.
But good lord. I better know at least a month a head of time because I need like 3 3days and I have a feeling it's gonna be sold out in hours... again.
The March-April movement of East is about when dates were available when the contract was signed, working around already scheduled events, the marathon, and Easter. That's why it moves.
Aus was a conscious decision to not hold it during its intended normal time for that first year, just to get it rolling. Late Oct is its home range now.
South's home range is intended to remain late Jan- early Feb.
Looking at the convention center schedule, there's 2 free blocks next Jan/Feb: 1/24-1/31 and 2/10-2/16. Unless they move it to Austin, but I hope they don't. San Antonio was so nice and walkable and cheap.
I am pretty sure they have a multi-year deal with San Antonio already. I certainly could be wrong, but I remember Jerry saying that it would be back there next year at minimum.
There was a news article mentioning that San Antonio had a deal with them through 2017; besides that story, it has been verified several times that 1) the intention is to keep it in SA and 2) Austin is not considered a target for hosting PAX.

In Texas, San Antonio is probably the best spot.
Dallas and Houston have big enough convention centers but there is NOTHING in their downtown areas after dark. Austin and Fort Worth have stuff around their convention centers, but they are not big enough. As much as I would like to see it come to DFW, they have it in the best location.

While Austin has some nice facilities, such as the Palmer Events Center where the SXSW Gaming Expo was held recently, they are way too small for PAX. San Antonio is the best place because it is the largest city closest to Austin. This makes it easier for the game developers to move their stuff for demos. San Antonio's downtown is practically made for conventions and, if PAX wanted to and it is available, they could utilize the nearby AlamoDome. Another reason for them to stay is......well, I live here and I don't want to go to Dallas or, god forbid, Houston. I drove through Houston once. Those guys are psychos.....
PAX dates, recently, have rarely been "announced" until they're getting ready to sell tickets for that given PAX. Sometimes the dates get posted before that, but it's not with regularity that they would come out this soon, necessarily. This distance away from PAX Prime, sometimes the Prime dates aren't posted anywhere yet either (although they have been for this coming one).

Jul 9th the tickets went on sale for the 2015 convention. I'm assuming that the same will be true for 2016.
My money is on January 29th, its the only weekend in Jan or Feb that the center does not already have an event or combination of events that don't total 4000+ people on the public schedule for the HBGCC
I'm going to guess the weekend of the 29th of January. Booking.com and some of the hotels in the area are already sold out/blocked for that weekend around the convention center.
PAX Prime 2014: Pass [x] Hotel [x] Flights [x] Vacation Days [x]
Seems like the last weekend of January is the odds on favorite as of now. If history repeats itself we are only a few weeks from tickets going on sale.
