Apps for audio recording

I'm looking for an application that is designed for recording voiceover or long-form spoken word material. Something where you take a text document, like a script, cut it up into pieces, and then step through piece by piece, collecting audio takes of each. Then you can review, mark up the takes, and stitch them together into a single file.

Surely some kind of software like this exists, I just don't know what to look for. Free or commercial are both fine. Does anyone know of anything or have any suggestions?

Looking around, it seems most places use audition, audacity or GarageBand depending on budget or platform to record multiple takes of each line, and then blade / stitch them together in the same app.

Probably not the answer you were looking for, but I am not finding a specialized solution out there.

Maybe call a studio that specializes in dubs or audiobooks and ask them what they use?

Yeah, that's what we've been doing at work (adobe audition) but it's beyond painful when doing hundreds of 40 minute long voiceovers. We should just hire amazing voice actors who sound good and can knock it all out in one hot take.
