So I just bought an Action Replay DS...

...only to find out that for some reason they don't give you the option to manually enter codes in. And of course, the software they give you with it isn't mac-compatible.

So, is there a way to enter codes manually that I've overlooked? Is there some downloadable software somewhere I can use to load codes onto it from a mac? Or am I screwed and need to return it?

    I'm pretty sure the Action Replay DS only modifies save files and doesn't actually change game code.

    Lemme guess, Pokeymans?

    Anyway, Datel has always hated Mac. Your best bet would be to install the software using a Windows emulator (I can't remember what it's called).

    Your other option is to buy the Trainer Toolkit for $50 to hack your own codes, then install THAT software using a Windows emulator. Whoohoo, I love it when they take your ability to create and insert your own codes, then charge you money to get it back. Fuckers.

    Seriously, ever since Interact went belly-up and was absorbed back into Datel, it's like they don't even try to improve on the software or features anymore.

    And that "official" Codejunkies site is a freaking mess. Damn Europeans.

    Partially Pokeymans, yeah.

    I guess in general downloading codes straight to the cart is more convenient, but that's not really an excuse to get rid of the manual code-entering altogether. I haven't owned a cheating thing since my n64 gameshark, but how long have things been like this?

    The official line from Datel was that they found out the other cheat device makers (Pelican, etc) would wait for Datel to figure out a new cheat, and then just adapt the cheat to their own device. So they did some basic encryption on the codes..

    The 1.52 revision firmware for the AR DS allows manual code input. What you need to do is install the pc-side code manager that comes on the cd that comes with the AR and pick to update the firmware for the device.

    Not quite. The old N64/PSX Gamesharks are in actuality the same as an Action Replay. Interact simply licensed and sold their product here under the Gameshark name for many years until they went bust.

    I should mention the Action Replay for DS has no real encryption at all. The only reason you would do anything to an address is to manipulate the first digit from 0 to 2, depending on how many bites you wanted to write to that address.

    Datel made the Gameshark. Interact just licensed the Action Replay's code for the US and renamed it.

    Geez, I started typing this whole history of cheating devices, and the differences beteween Galoob's primitive methods and Datel's code patching, but I got beat'd hard.
