I Wanna [MMO] All Night And Party Every Day!

Seeing as SE++ isn't shy on having threads for particular MMOs, I thought I'd make one for MMOs that haven't gotten their own thread here yet or might not be well known enough to hold up a thread for long. To start it off, here's a few I've been playing and enjoying recently.

Guild Wars 2
PA Guild: Yes (Fort Aspenwood server)

One of the top MMORPGs out there, GW2 improves on it's sequel by giving a big old world with questing mostly put aside for dynamic events that occur all over all the time. These can be simple tasks like escorting NPCs and defending towns. Or operations so large scale guilds are created just to deal with them like taking down the world boss Tequatl or fighting in the major PvP experience of World Vs World where 2000 players from three servers collide across four maps to see which server comes out on top. Now's not a bad time to join up as it's first expansion's been announced, Heart Of Thorns.

Cryptic Games: Star Trek Online/Champions Online/Neverwinter
PA Guild: Yes (in Star Trek Online)

Created by the same company behind City Of Heroes, these three games are part of the MMO-stable run by Perfect World. Champions Online was created first, originally meant to be a PC & console MMORPG based on the Marvel Universe but retooled to use the old Champions tabletop RPG after Marvel bailed on the idea, the game created with the intent to allow players to create heroes with not only custom looks but handpicked powers from various sets rather then have established classes like CoH. Star Trek Online came after, picked up after Perpetual Entertainment failed to see their version of the game through, offering players the chance to play as Starfleet and KDF officers 30+ years after the events of Star Trek: Nemesis. Both were originally published under Atari but ended up suffering due to Atari not quite getting how MMOs work and it can be said that Champions Online still suffers to this day even after Cryptic was sold to Perfect World. Neverwinter's the first game made by Cryptic under PW's umbrella, an action-MMO sequel to the events of the Neverwinter Nights games and currently tying in to the storyline being run for the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop-RPG. While only STO has a PA guild, all three games are linked by a single Penny Arcade chat channel, allowing players from the forum to chat with each other no matter which of the three is being played.

TERA
PA Guild: Yes (Tempest Reach server)

Much like Neverwinter, TERA's an action-MMO requiring quick reflexes and fingers on the keyboard to play. Players can create characters from various (and often scantily-clad) races to fight off the various enemies plaguing a world without gods, the primary bad guy being the metallic demons known as Argons. A word of warning however for those interested in trying it out is that this game really asks a lot from a graphics card, even more so then Neverwinter. You'll want to make sure your card can handle TERA first before committing to the 50GB download. I had to crank my settings down to pretty much minimum and I still get lurches during in-game cutscenes involving effects.

Forsaken World
PA Guild: No

A WoW-clone, Forsaken World is one of the two 'World' MMORPGs created by Perfect World themselves which involves much like TERA races banding together under the flag of the Lionheart Champions to fight off the Storm Legion, an army created by an evil god. There's fun to be had here though admittedly the game can come off as not very well translated occasionally, it doesn't offer a lot of information on how certain things work (made worse by the game's wiki being half-broke right now) and players can get stuff done a lot better with the support of a guild then going it solo. Still, it's got a sizeable player base and the latest expansion streamlined the game's first half ala WoW's Cataclysm to the point that they actually added a '2' to the game's title overseas.

Elsword
PA Guild: No

Part of the dungeon-brawler subset of MMOs, Elsword lets players pick one of nine (and soon to be ten) characters to play through various stage-like dungeons to complete quests for folks in hub-towns along a 2.5D plane. And yes, characters instead of classes though each character can take up one of three jobs at Lv15 and evolve to a more refined version of it at Lv35. It's a lot of fun though the game feels much more solo-friendly then social thanks to the LFG tool easily making parties for the needed dungeon runs (of which players will need to run at least three times for each to clear them out completely) as well as the inventory being pretty cramped despite items being separated into their own bags. Plus unlike the games above, there's no option to swap in-game cash for cash-shop credits. Oh, and if you're going to play, best to have a gamepad to make things easier.
