Nerve damage

RedthirstRedthirst Registered User regular
Unfortunately, I broke my arm and also got nerve damage. The arm is mostly fine and functions, but because of nerve damage my fingers and wrist are partialy paralysed. I say partialy because I can move my wrist down and clench my fingers, but I cannot lift either of them. There is also numbness and mild burning sensation on touch of a part of my arm.

Now, I've been to the hospital, but most attention was given to the broken bone, especially since nerve was proven to be intact(by "intact" I mean that it's not severed, and thus doesn't require a surgery). Because of that, the only things I know about it is that it will recover at some point, that I shouldn't overstretch affected nerves and muscles and that I should passively exercise fingers and wrist as to not lose muscle strenght.

The things I would like to know:
1. Is there any estimate as to how long it will take, or is it absolutely individual?
2. Is there supposed to be any visible progress(for example, fingers and wrist slowly regaining their function over time) or is it an instant recovery(where I can wake up one day and find my fingers and wrist fully functional again)?
3. Is there anything else that I don't already know that can enhance and accelerate the recovery proccess?

Thank you.

These are all things you need to ask your doctor.

When talking about stuff like nerve damage that can affect a limb for the rest of your life, it's bordering on negligent to leave it up to a community of laypeople on the internet for advice on healing it, so I'm closing this thread.
