What gun should one be using to shoot patrols before they see you solo? I'm using the AR, which isn't accurate enough most of the time, but I can't solo a mission with the sniper rifle jobbie either.
Against bugs the shotgun seems to work great, often takes out a patrol eith a single blast. Cyborgs a sniper rifle would be good as the guy who does the alert is often in the back. Not sure what would be best for the Illuminate.
Also throwing yourself prone to sneak past patrols does work.
All that said, I would just stop soloing missions, drop into the games of randoms, revel in the chaos!
Man, this game is fun. Played a bit of local co-op with my friend yesterday. It was a blast, even when we failed in epic fashion. If anyone needs another PSN person to play along, friend me up. Same name as PA here.
Jumped into a game with some randoms. It was the first time they had all seen the APC. We proceeded to tear across the landscape in a rolling train of pain, then the driver got too careless and drove all 4 of us off the side of a cliff.

Yeah the way I see it, if you get used to chaos with randoms, you'll be able to handle it better when shit goes south while playing with friends.

The game is 10x harder in multi; there's literally no reason to do it other than to have stories of horrific failures to tell.
I can't do anything above medium without backup. Maybe I've been lucky, but most of the people I've played with have been pretty competent, if somewhat uncoordinated.

Game Over.
Make sure you come to a complete stop before hitting x to exit as the driver. I have managed to gloriously run over myself several times in public. I can tell people are judging me as the all sort of stand very still before someone decides to put up a reinforcement beacon.
Philippe about the tactical deployment of german Kradschützen during the battle of Kursk:
"I think I can comment on this because I used to live above the Baby Doll Lounge, a topless bar that was once frequented by bikers in lower Manhattan."
Wait, so is the game actually easier in single player or is that speculation? I ask because I was doing okay solo on medium and then a level 1 joined my game and we got smoked.
Mission opens. The first person on the ground takes a tentative step forward, right under another drop pod.
"We're off to a good start lads!"
We had similar situation last night. We were going to kick off a planet with a survivor escort mission. It's a tight map, with a two man team, so we jump in as close as possible. The drop pods obliterate two survivors on the way down.
Super Earth clearly does not negotiate with terrorists.
Had a good time divin with @SyphonBlue; we were running couch co-op on my end, so thanks for putting up with some chattiness and our general lack of ability!
I rather enjoyed listening to the two of you wondering aloud what shotgun I was using and how it was so amazing
And then wondering if I was getting annoyed at listening to you guys
Good games, @Farangu! Even though you did execute my brother, take his machine gun, then run off a cliff.
I'm pretty sure that's exactly how it's written in the Helldiver's field manual.

Me and a friend got wiped during extraction, the ship landed on him and I got bug-juiced and surrounded and wasn't able to get to the side of the airship, good times!
Really hoping they get matchmaker working better in this game. Doing level 1-4 missions at level 17 might be good for research, but they take forever to level with. Seems like I rarely get those tough missions (with good folks) if I don't spend 20 minutes hunting for a squad.
I've had some hilarious fails in these missions. I did not expect friendly fire to be so amusing.
I'm getting really annoyed with the matchmaking in this game.
First off, there needs to be a filter to not show full games. I don't give a shit about full games, don't show me them.
And they need to fix it. Period. I was unable to connect to 10 games with generic "Failed to transfer" or whatever bullshit error messages this game throws at you last night so I just gave up and went and played some Diablo.
All that said, I would just stop soloing missions, drop into the games of randoms, revel in the chaos!

I don't want the game to be easy. I don't really care if I win or lose either, as long as I have a fun time. And for me multiplayer is far more fun than solo. And I usually still win anyway.

I had a blast playing coop with my brother yesterday.
He was telling me to step up my game and not be garbage. Theeeeeen he immediately dropped his own ammo drop on his head. My turret game is weak. Especially in a tense situation... basically I am super good at dropping my turrets in the exact spot that gets everyone killed by friendly fire.
That first shotgun (the Breaker?) is frickin godlike! Fully upgraded it has range and damage for days. Uses up ammo like a motherfucker though...

Not having a "Hide Full" filter is completely boneheaded. You also can't filter for midrange difficulty; hiding hard and easy games leaves the list totally blank.

The breaker is brilliant for cleansing xeno scum, but not covering your friends. Scattershot will pulverize friendly faces when you try to get lobsters off their backs.

That's when you just have to hit the deck and let your shotgun friend blast away.

Also, why is the matchmaking list so short? I know, I know, there are more than 15 games going on right now.

Neither mode is easy; multi is just WAY harder.
I think multi is (I'm debating a 'significantly' here) easier with communication. At least one person popping the radar up regularly to let everybody know where the blips are coming from, er'body in an APC quickly rolling to the next objective, 4 mechs laying waste.
The friendly fire gets dicey, but if people are calling things out you can usually keep everything away from the objective and by proxy the center of the group. When someone sweeps towards me I usually immediately drop to the ground. If I sweep towards someone to help them I call their name and a "I got it" or a "drop".
This game is so fun, I'm having such a blast right now and i'm only playing solo until cross-play is fixed (I don't have a PS4 (yet, should come in a few months) and my friends all play on PS4).
Which weapon do you guys use most of the time? I'm using the Breaker and it is awesome, but I think it will only be good for single player because I can't figure out how I'm going to use that gun with friends near me...

I use the Scythe because not having to call in more ammo is a fucking godsend.

I run an ammo backpack for my team for this reason.
I don't think most people get how it works yet though.
It was a bit of a challenge trying to get good angles that didn't also hit my brother with bullets...
I told him he should be thanking me for shooting him. I was just filling his body with democracy and liberty.

Ive been running a fully upgraded Scythe, but I think I need to pull down something with armor piercing. I was running a Borg planet with an assassination mission, and it seemed like I couldn't put a freaking dent in the dude. I suppose I could call a EAT17 or something, but I like my stratagem balance of T3 UAV, T3 Mech, T2 mines, and T3 turret.

I think the error is that you can;t get to ships that have connected after you've gotten on. You have to exit and launch again to get to them.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not. The internet has finally broken me.

I'm not. But I think you're devaluing how great it is to have stories of horrific failures.
Or being crushed by somebody at the very beginning just because.
