There is a moment in Pillars of Eternity where you may think "Hey, I can turn into a bear. I bet I could take on this bear!"

A real bear is much, much tougher than your fake bear.

Fake bears are known for being cute and cuddly

I have a podcast about Power Rangers:Teenagers With Attitude | TWA Facebook Group

This is a fake bear. It is a very tough person but, incidentally, a pretty wimpy bear.

This looks amazing, but I will have to wait for someone to make a rundown on just what companions DO as it bugs me so much to get 4+hrs into a game like this and find out that my wizard can team up with a super wizard for the rest of the game. I like my parties to be swiss army knives, and just don't have the time to guess/play a while/ re-do.

There are eight permanent companions. They can all die permanently so you can hire Npcs that you build yourself. There is a list up on the wiki of the story npc classes. The story party members all have quests to do and will react to your stuff.

The first npc you meet that is permanent is a wizard.

  • LanglyLangly Registered User regular
The story Npcs will be at your current level when you meet them so it is to your advantage to meet them as soon as possible so they don't level stupidly.

You can get three party members basically instantly. The wizard, the fighter, and the cleric.

My main is a stoic monk stacked with 20 might. And I made a death godlike benevolent paladin stacked for tanking and healing. I think all the npc classes as simply extra now with my buddy cops .

Also I guess I can check the digitial manual/guide but are there dicerolls or an option to see them? Don't see it in the options.

I think the only mechanic you can reveal is the conversation stuff.

are you guys hiring people? or sticking to the npcs

if nothing else, if you want to try out all 11 classes in one playthrough, you'll need to make a rogue, a barbarian, and a monk yourself, since those classes aren't represented by any npcs

  • PoorochondriacPoorochondriac Ah, man Ah, jeezRegistered User regular
Since my main is a rogue, I hired a fighter basically immediately just to beef up my front line. Glad I did.

And man, is it nice to have a way to put bandaids on the gaps in your party like that.

    This game seems fucking rad.

Still mulling over a LP. I'd like to do one, but given that I'm going to have a baby soon and will eventually return to full-time school in a week (along with having to look for a job), I'm not entirely convinced I'd be able to see it through.

oh man I wonder if this keep is a watcher's keep type side dungeon. that would be great

yeah man, if ya can't do it ya can't do it. i'm told that babies and education are generally more important than vidya games

From what I hear, your stronghold has a massive dungeon beneath it to explore. Semi-randomized, I want to say? Might be making that up.

    Oh, tip for new players:
    DON'T SELL GEMS

I'm used to them being junk items, and offloaded a whole mess of them, then realized shortly thereafter that they're a big component in crafting/enchanting. Don't go chuckin' that topaz, bros and brodettes.

  • LanglyLangly Registered User regular
It's not random but it is fifteen levels deep.

I'm going to assume that chanting is like singing because I like the thought of charging into battle with a song in your heart.

I have a question about this game

Can I create a woman rogue, but not a wimpy one? I want a rogue that isn't focused on sneaking around and avoiding enemies so much as insulting dudes three times her size so that they attack overconfidently just before she guts the fuck out of them.

Like, an agile, quick, trash-talking, I-don't-give-a-shit slayer of men.

Oh, you say you don't need healing now.

But you'll get into big last-man-standing fights and you'll be wishing you had someone on healing duty.

Rogues don't have to be sneaky or evasive, and stealth only matters up until combat starts; in combat, rogues are all about inflicting negative status effects on targets and exploiting those statuses for extra damage. Keep in mind that Sneak Attack applies to all attacks made during the first two seconds of combat, so the rogue doesn't even have to be the one making a first strike from out of stealth to get extra damage. Once you get Riposte you could totally set up a Deflection-based tank-and-punish build on a rogue.

Promiscuity is unfortunately not a disposition attribute, but passionate is.

I'm one of the Paladins that has passionate and clever as their focus so that has been fun so far.

My paladin is passionate and benevolent, also honest and diplomatic on the side, and it's pretty neat. She just loves the shit out of helping people, even moreso if that help involves knocking the heads in of someone trying to bribe her.

but there is no healing. you can restore endurance, but you can't actually heal.
