Single monitor, want to use PC and PS4 on it

I've got a Korean QNIX 1440p display that only has a single DVI-D input that I use with this PC. I also want to use my PS4 on it. It seems like my options are a HDMI->DVI-D connector + DVI switch, or HDMI capture card. Honestly either is fine as long as it works without pissing me off.

The complications with the HDMI->DVI-D route lie in the switch. I can't seem to find one that can actually output 2560x1440. If someone has a solution here I'd love to see it.

For the capture card route, I'm tempted to just get this Startech (Micomsoft) card because I know Micomsoft from their XRGB products. However, I haven't ever actually used a capture card and don't know how well it'd work for playing PS4 games on my monitor. The computer is pretty beefy, with an i5 @ 4.0ghz, 16gb of ram and a samsung SSD.

Please share your solutions with me.

You're going to run into issues using a converter with both sound and, potentially, the video quality.

DVI-D does support sound in the standard, but I have never in my life seen a cable or converter that does. You might look into getting a HDMI->DVI-D with 3.5mm sound output, if your monitor supports it. I doubt the capture card is going to be usable, that will probably add a noticeable delay to the game. Capture cards are mostly significant for recording and streaming. There's also likely to be a delay between video and sound with this method.

AFAIK, most streamers use some sort of HDMI splitter to send it to their PC and a TV, which means you'll probably have to disable HDCP to do it.

Though it's been a few years since I've had to deal with capture cards, so maybe they don't add delays anymore. I honestly think your best bet is to get a monitor with HDMI in, but the cable to DVI-D might work (no bluray playback I bet though, HDCP strikes again?).

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA0U01FD0070 looks like it supports 1440P

then you just need a hdmi->dvi-d adapter on the output.

and maybe a dvi-d->hdmi adapter for your pc, but your gpu should have a hdmi port on it.

not entirely sure that will work though, those Korean models can be a bit picky about what you use to output to it.

as for sound are you using the speakers on the monitor? if not it gets easier as you can just take optical out from the ps4/pc to a receiver.

I spent a long time yesterday doing some research on products, cables, and signals to figure out the simplest way, and the cheapest way to solve this, and they all suck. Simplest way costs ~$300 because a straight up DVI-D switch is absurdly expensive. HDMI switches are pretty much out, because DVI->HDMI adapters may or may not work with resolutions greater than 1920x1080. Cheapest was to get a KVM actually. There are a few that will do the job.

Capture devices were out again, because the ones that passthrough only output HDMI as far as I can tell, and you run into the DVI-HDMI adapter problem again.

So, there was another simple way to solve the issue. It was this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009C3M7H0/

That's exactly the monitor I came across too.

Seems like it'd be perfect for what you want. PS4 might not output to 1440, but it should at least work.

It only outputs up to 1080p as far as I can tell, but that's not a problem. This way at least I can connect my PC with DisplayPort or DVI, and the PS4 with HDMI. It'll work fine. I found a buyer for my current monitor as well, so the price isn't so harsh.
