I love when developers dream big. This project's ambition seems boundless. It's been awhile since I've seen something as intriguing and fresh. The online survival genre is still in its infancy, and this looks like the step forward I've been waiting for. I went from mildly curious to giddy with anticipation in no time. Hopefully we'll hear more soon.
Update:
Early Access Phase has begun. Gameplay videos flood youtube.

Dino Taming Tips...
There is an updated food list for taming dinos (mainly updated for Herbs). Borrowed from the thread on the steam forums:
+++++++++++++++++++++++++++HERBIVORES+++++++++++++++++++++++++++
NOTE: All herbivores will eat the Mejoberries first. This does not mean it is their favourite berry type. They will eat it first, but it does not tame them all the fastest. This is very important to take into consideration.
Dodo => Prefered Food: Amarberry
Parasaur => Prefered Food: Azulberry
Triceritops => Prefered Food: Tintoberry (Confirmed multiple times by both myself and the community. Good job guys!)
Stegasaurus => Prefered Food: Azulberry (Thanks to Wakelessrex for the info!)
Carbonemys => Prefered Food: Amarberries? (Multiple Sources) [Must be tested]
Phiomia => Prefered Food: Mejoberry? [Must be retested]
Brontosaurus => Prefered Food: Amarberry (Thanks to ustolemygmrtag!)
Ankylosaurus => Prefered Food: [Requires testing]
Mammoth => [Requires testing]
++++++++++++++++++++++++++CARNIVORES++++++++++++++++++++++++++
NOTE: Most Carnivores will tame far faster using Prime Meat than they would with regular Raw Meat. However, Prime Meat spoils quickly, so be careful when trying to rush obtaining some. It can get you killed :P
Utahraptor => Prefered Food: Raw/Prime Meat
Scorpion => Prefered Food: Spoiled Meat
Dilo => Prefered Food: Raw/Prime Meat (Thanks for the confirmation 42nd Fengshen and Artikia!)
Argentavis => Prefered Food: Raw/Prime Meat (Confirmed by Diedel that the Agrentavis does not eat spoiled meat. I guess only fresh corpses will do :P)
T-Rex => Prefered Food: Raw/Prime Meat (Thanks to Ni Meleth Li=VX9= for confirming!)
Carno => Prefered Food: Raw/Prime Meat (Same as T-Rex. Mister Rogue Axe, on a roll! Thanks!
)
Megalodon => Prefered Food: Raw/Prime Meat (Thanks Rogue Axe!)
Sarco => Prefered Food: Raw/Prime Meat (Thanks Rogue Axe again :P)
Sabertooth => Prefered Food: Raw/Prime Meat (Once again thank you Rogue Axe ^_^)
Pteranodon => Prefered Food: Raw/Prime Meat (reconfirmed by pretty much everyone)
Spinosaurus => Prefered Food: Raw/Prime Meat (Confirmed by my clan and I when we tamed one. SO awesome looking!)
Plesiosaur => [Not yet in game]

More tips and tricks from and assembled by Wickedkarma (including PA Server map)...
Non spoiler PA server ARK map. Since I do not know most of what you Southerners call stuff or where you guys are set up, this is mostly focused on North side of the island and War Boyz tribe terminology
Feel free to update the map and post it, especially you Public Works guys/gals. You are doing some awesome stuff!
Starting you really want to pick up some basics:
Cloth Armor
Torch
Stone Axe
Water Skin
Slingshot
Bow
Thatch foundations/walls/roofs
Camp Fire
Sleeping bag and then eventually the bed.
Narcotic
Narcotic Arrows
Once you have these down you are pretty much set to start to travel around the island.
Quite a few people want to specialize in something to help out the server. Please feel free to pick what ever YOU enjoy doing the most. We have blueprints that allow us to make dang near everything thing and we have enough people that we can cover the gaps so feel free to do what you enjoy the most!
- Press E to pick up stones from beaches, or berries and fiber from plants.
- Loot drop level reqs: White-Lvl3, Green-Lvl15, Blue-Lvl25, Purple-Lvl35, Gold-Lvl45, Red-Lvl60.
- Hatchets harvest hide, stones, and wood; Picks harvest meat, flint, and thatch.
- Split meat into single stacks so you can get spoiled meat Faster.
- Try to keep your meat in stacks and not separated so you get less spoiled meat.
- Pressing Q while the inventory is open will hide/show the item name and description overlay on items.
- Holding the "H" key (default) will display advanced information on the HUD (such as what certain status effects mean)
- Your basic harvesting tools are your bare hands. Punching trees hurts, so craft tools as soon as possible.
- It is a great idea to build a large storage chest and dump everything into when you log out for the night/go on vacation, so if you die you wont actually lose your stuff.
- Fiber might seem worthless at low levels, but at higher levels it is super important. We need TONS of it. If you are just joining the server or are still a bit lower level we will gladly trade you fiber for some higher end gear!
- It is soo much better if you can get into team speak with us. We are frequently running for our lives or involved in some time sensitive tasks and having to stop and type is not always a viable option.
- You can quickly repair an item by hitting its assigned quickslot button (assuming you have the required materials).
- Greyed out items on the quickslot bar can be crafted by merely hitting its button (assuming you have the required materials) while holding that button will display what you're missing.
- You can also quickly create an additional item if you press alt while hitting its assigned quickslot button.
- When building a shelter, you can become encumbered very quickly with wood. Instead of running to your shelter and sorting everything out, make whatever components you can in the field as it severely lessens your weight, allowing you to stay out collecting for longer. A stack of wood weighs in at 50lbs however wood walls weigh 4lbs each.
- Cooked meat stacks past 20! Maximize your salt fridge space!
Taming Basics (stolen from the ARK Wiki)
Knock the animal unconscious. This can be achieved by punching the animal in the head, aiming for the head with a slingshot, or shooting the animal with Tranquilizer Arrows (preferred).
Open the animal's inventory and feed it an appropriate food item by dragging food into its inventory. The food needed to tame it will depend on the dinosaur. Carnivores = Meat; Herbivores = Berries
Keep plenty of food in the animal's inventory while the taming bar fills up, but don't force feed them anything except Narcoberries / Narcotics to keep them unconscious. They eat food voluntarily as long as it's in their inventory. Don't worry about using an excess of food, as once the animal is tamed you can access the food in its inventory.
Every time the animal raises its head to eat, the Taming bar increases. They feed every time their hunger falls 30 points (for herbivores) and 50 points (for carnivores) below their max.
The Unconscious bar is tied to the animal's torpor, and slowly falls as the torpor decreases. It will increase when the animal is fed Narcotics or Narcoberries.

I was skeptical until it showed the players riding dinos. At that point, does anything else even matter? I just hope it isn't vaporware in regards to consoles. Quite often ambitious PC games get announced for console, but never emerge. My next PC upgrade is still a year or two off, if I do one at all.

It's worth mentioning that these devs aren't random Joes, but people who have actually worked in the industry for awhile. Specifically for many of them they worked on the Uncharted series.
And come day one of Early Access they will also have modding support.
Oh and Gareth Coker, composer for Ori and the Blind Forest, also does the music for ARK.
This one is tempting though. And it being worked on by legit devs who have something of a pedigree does make it a bit more likely to succeed.
I'd watched a stream of this for a bit last night and was not disappointed. I'm waiting for a few impressions once the game is buyable, but it's looking like a 'when, not if' situation for me.
In that case, about... 2 hours?
Wouldn't be the worst impulse purchase I ever made. But I think I can hold out a day or so.
Maybe.
Possibly.
Just 2 hours huh?
(Was Barry the little dinosaur?)
I didn't get a chance to see the video until just now.
Also the release time has been pushed back, it'll be around 5 PM EST.
Some JackFrags gameplay footage.
Shogun Streams Vidya
I didn't even make it that long.
Downloading this now.
oh man, I would like to have mammals in this as well. I would like to have a bear pet, but the idea of being a swarm master to a bunch of the little rapters sounds interesting as well. (probably stupid high maintenance and dino turn over after fights, though...)

So I'm going around the problem.
I found a link detailing how to setup an ARK server so I'm going to put one up for myself and play the game that way.
Life Gamers will find a way.
can you post the link?
Found it here (also some server commands, as well as details on server config file):https://steamcommunity.com/app/346110/discussions/0/615085406677145065/#p2
EDIT: So those two links were enough for me to get a server that appeared to be started. Not good enough to get a server I could see or connect to, however. Ah well. An endeavor for another day.
!!!
I will be the Bat Man now!

You have to go to the my profile area and scroll down a bit it will show you a list of games and any that are not installed will have a little download icon next to them
Maybe it saves automatically, but I don't want to quit the game to find out.
I know it uses steam cloud so it should work, but I have yet to get the single player to start working =(

And it looks like a campfire inside a thatch building isn't the terrible idea you'd think it is.
I am also not able to play on official servers, but I am able to get in on unofficial servers using that method.
Guys, this game... It's gorgeous. The streams really did it no justice.
The bad: terrible optimization, but looks quite nice. Pretty crashy, and loading into even local play is very slow. Lot of work needed here, especially with the optimization; seriously, I turned the graphics down and struggled to chase an enemy through the underbrush, simply because the FPS was so low I couldn't see where it was going.
The good: I see a lot here to make this game something other than DayZ: Dinosaur Edition or Build Stuff Game: Now With Dinosaurs. The environment is unforgiving, but not to the point of being unfun; everything is not out to kill you, but the stuff that can kill can do a pretty good job of it. The engram system is quite nice; instead of leaving players in the dark to go consult an immersion-breaking guide, the crafting system is straight-up with how to build any item and what the item does. There's even an early unlockable item to give you a one-use respawn item that you can place, so dying doesn't mean you're completely fucked by being chucked way the hell off in the middle of nowhere. The quick item menu remembers your choices, so if you build a hatchet and place it in the first slot, crafting a hatchet will automatically equip it in that slot; you don't have to juggle fifteen stupid hatchets when working, just craft them and keep wearing them out without having to constantly shuffle them in the inventory system. The stat system also means that dying isn't simply a "lose everything" bullshit situation; you lose your items, but you retain your levelling. So when you do come back, you're still better off than before.
There also seems to be some genuinely cool shit to go find in the environment. Before getting raptor-murdered, I got to chase down and murder some saber-toothed pig in the jungle and watch a couple of triceratops kill a giant scorpion. After that, I spent a bit of time whacking dodos on the beach before night hit, then got to wonder about the giant floating lights off in the distance.
Overall, I see a game where the multiplayer part will actually matter for something other than just fucking over random players for grins.
