You gentlemen may remember something called "Project S" being announced for the Wii and the only thing we knew about it was that it was an adventure game being developed for the Wii by Kojima and Suda51. There were many rumors about it being a sequel/prequel/remake of Snatcher. Well....
Meanwhile, Mikami's first encounter with Kojima's work was Metal Gear Solid -- however, he personally likes Snatcher more. Kojima and Suda 51 both reacted, "Ah yes, Snatcher," alluding to something. "Oh, should we announce it here?" "Maybe later, during Hidechan Radio?" (The show later lead to the live recording of Hidechan Radio by Kojima Productions).
Makes me feel like playing through the original again.
I'd love to play the original if I had a damn copy of it. I know it hit the PS and SegaCD but did it ever come out on Saturn? Don't answer that I'm gonna go check Ebay...
Nope, but I did see some Saturn import discs for sale. Too bad every single version was expensive.
I have the SegaCD version (got it second hand from my cousin for free. Score!). However, it is extremely difficult to find on all platforms. Most people turn to emulation once a game reaches a certain level of rarity. I really would recommend playing the original as it is such a well made game which has aged superbly.
I'm wondering about how the interface will work, Will it be the classic interface from the original or will they use a more Deus Ex style of gameplay?

I had the sega cd version but sold it back when I actually would sell something like that. I never played it. Got it from a friend in a trade and just sold it off before I could become to attatched to it. FUCKING IDIOT.
If you want to have a look at the Snatcher storyline but are opposed to both emulation and paying a hojillion dollars for an original copy, SomethingAwful Goon slowbeef did a "Let's Play" thread on it:
Suda 51's style + Kojima's production values + Mikami's atmosphere + cyberpunk Snatcher IP = all of us spazzing around on the floor in pure ecstasy for many days!
I've been hyped about this for a while. Kojima and Suda51 are such asses for cock-teasing everyone, but man, if this comes true and it's Snatcher glory, then I will pop mad boners. Like, 10 of 'em.
What's interesting is that (IMO) the MGS games and Killer7 are both notorious as titles that may not wow everyone on the nuts-and-bolts gameplay, but they really nail style and atmosphere. Transplanting that notion to a point-and-click adventure game steeped in anime and cyberpunk ... it seems like a perfect match to me, anyway.
EDIT: Shit, and if Mikami is actually involved and dealing with the nuts-and-bolts gameplay ...

Seriously... I used to play through, beat this game, reset and play through it again. I love Snatchers.
I once rented Lethal Enforcers just so I could play through Snatchers using the lightgun.
This news makes me pretty damn happy. I've been saying for years that Konami needs to make a new Snatchers game. I'm of the honest opinion that had Konami kept the Snatchers franchise around it may have been what RE is today.
Yeah, Snatcher is a classic in my book. One of the only reasons for owning a SegaCD. The Saturn version is uncensored, but I think it's only in Japanese. And I think the SegaCD version looks worst out of all three versions. Still, it's the one you're most likely to find.
I don't own a Wii yet, but if this comes out I'll have good reason to purchase one without hesitation.

If they were smart it'd be a simultaneous New Game + Virtual Console release of the original.

isn't there some problem emulating sega cd? I remember that one of the reasons the original is so sought after being that it can't be emulated on a computer. this was years ago though.

You're thinking of the Saturn (which is impossible to emulate). The only problem I could see with putting the SegaCD games on the VC is the size of them.
Mikeryu: The first version of the original was released in 1988 and the SegaCD one (the only one that was localised and had all the voice acting) was released in 1994.
Oh fuck. I have a complete Snatcher for the PCE CD (snatcher stickers, etc., ha ha) but of course it's in japanese and... etc. etc. Wonder if there's a fan translation patch.
Someday I need to get the segaCD version but I don't know if my $5 junk-store sega cd actually works. It was filled with rust though the circuitry looked fine. Someday, someday.
It's not really revealed. Most signs point to no but there are some things which suggest that it is. Such as Metal Gear MkII, your personal assistant. However, as a general rule I'd have to say that the universes are totally seperate and the references to MG are just that. References.
As far as the Metal Gear connection goes, there are quite a few references back and forth between this/Policenauts and Metal Gear. People would argue that they are in the same universe, however, a character that clearly dies in the Metal Gear series is alive and well in Snatcher.
The most obvious though is that in the future world of Snatcher, you have a Metal Gear, a small AI sidekick. The "Metal Gear" Ocelot talks to snake through in the first MGS4 trailer is the same thing.
Neo Rasa on
"You know how Batman hangs people over the edge of buildings and gets them to spill information. That's Neo Rasa's way of it, but instead of information, he just likes to see people suffer." ~Senor Fish
A new Snatcher game would be the greatest thing ever to grace this earth. I have Snatcher for Sega CD still and at least once a year I go back and play it. I would love a new game.
I know little to nothing about Snatcher but is it still supposed to be in the Metal Gear universe?
I don't think it's set in the Metal Gear Universe, just references it. Bar named Outer Heaven, Gillian's little metal buddy named Metal Gear (Mach 2!)

I quote all of this for truth, justice, and the American way.
In other words, Wii = Win.

Seems like maybe the sequel could be a first person detective game with a little Wiimote shooting thrown in here and there.
The level of detail in the original sounds promising for the sequel. I love games that really try to immerse you in their world.
THERE ARE NOT ENOUGH LIMES IN THE WORLD FOR THIS!
I am all for this.
only a wikipedia search away.
NiGHTS 2, Sonic Wii, Snatcher, Mario vs Sonic, Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, Gears of War, Halo 3, DMC4, GTAIV, Mass Effect, Blue Dragon, MGS4...
we might actually be in another golden age.
man, '94 was just some wacky low-res shitty 2d games, who wants to play them :P
Sonic Wii?
