I rushed to it at 4 chunks (with a minimum squad size and nobody above sgt, I think). Only half of my squad died, probably thanks to a lengthy concealment phase and not stopping for anything after grabbing the objective.
It helps that the first one is essentially the same map with only minor variations, so you'll get better at it. Five squad members helps. Having a fairly ranked specialist to hack a turret can also be huge. Turrets can attack twice per turn, and the success rate on taking control of them isn't terrible.
In the final building, sending a guy up on the roof gives you good tactical options... you just need to be careful because there's a ~33% chance (apparently) that the robot and his friends spawns on the roof instead of inside the building. that can get ugly.

I've got no idea if the launch crash issue I've been dealing with has to do with a problem on my PC, or if it's an issue relating to how unpolished the game's been out of the gate, and I'm debating taking a refund. But I'm kind of hoping Firaxis publishes a patch soon that'll fix the issues I've been having.
Should I just go ahead with the refund, or wait and see what Firaxis does? Because if it's a PC issue, then a patch probably isn't going to do much good, but I really want to play this game, and I'd hate to have to go through the hassle of repurchasing it later if I don't need to.
Did you happen to try what I suggested a few pages back?

Obvious question, have you checked if people with your spec PC are having the same issue?
I haven't found anything that specific; apparently it's a known issue, but nothing I've seen while looking for a fix suggests that it's limited to a single type of desktop.
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't concerned that maybe my PC's specs aren't where they need to be to run the game, but I definitely can't just drop a whole bunch of cash on a new one right now.

Not yet; I haven't had to use MSConfig before now, and I'm afraid that I could end up inadvertently making the problem worse as a result.

I understand. You can screencap before you start turning programs off. There's even a button that hides all the Microsoft programs so you won't accidently turn off a necessary program.
I really empathize with your problem, I went through the same thing with two games. I even dropped $300 on a new graphic card trying unsuccessfully to fix it.

I like concealment a whole bunch, but I will blow cover as soon as I have a good shot at a pod. No exceptions, not after I attempted to stealth several missions and ended up regretting it just about every time.
Only been able to "stealth" one effectively: it was an escort mission with a relatively close by extraction point, and only even saw/engaged the one pod I did on the same rooftop
Miss me? Find me on:

Yeah, trying to get cute and dodge pods or set up "perfect" positioning always seems to lead to blundering in to having all the aliens in the map jump up your butt at once.
I have way too many missions end with 1 or 2 turns left on the clocks. They really tuned time limits to be tight as hell and keep you pushing at a pace past your comfort zone

It's great though, because you get moments like this
Which is almost exactly how my incarnation of Jane Kelly died doing the first VIP extraction mission. (2 Soldiers made it out along with the VIP, everyone had to sprint into the LZ on the last turn, there was literally no time left on the clock)

Yeah I don't get what people are saying about how you can just ambush packs all day every day. The time limits on the majority of missions makes that unfeasible.
Honestly I'm really enjoying being able to play more aggressively than in the original. Mimic Beacons sounded super OP when people were describing them but honestly without them this game would be fucking impossible. With them, you have meaningful tactical options as you're moving towards an objective.
The turn timer can really screw you, but leads to some totally insane moments.
Like, I got held up in the beginning of a VIP mission and realized there was no way I had enough time to go inside, hack the VIP's cell door, and make it back out...
So my grenadier blew a giant hole in the wall and everyone just ran for it.
I had a collect a Dark VIP mission. Apparently the objective also entails killing all threats. Well, I missed that part, because I didn't realize the adds that show up if you go too low on the turn timer count as guys you need to kill. So I left one there and evacced everyone. Whoopsie. So, I loaded, just had to shoot one more guy, which I had another turn to do. Except in the loaded version the VIP is inexplicably laying where I punched him out, instead of on the back of my soldier.
and I wonder about my neighbors even though I don't have them
but they're listening to every word I say

I had two guys go MIA because one was carrying a wounded soldier and was too slow to make it to the LZ.
So I don't have XCOM 2, but I just started up a new game of EU. Got through the entirety of month one without a single injury! Took a hit in the first mission of month 2, but the soldier survived it.
Second mission of month 2, I code black in... maybe five turns. First I underestimated a thin man's movement range and got a man flanked and killed. Set up a flank on that thin man with another soldier, but they missed their shot. I then suppressed that Thin Man so they couldn't move from the flank or counter-flank my guy, but then the other thin-man crit my heavy through full cover, because of course, freeing up the first one to flank and kill my other guy. This left just my sniper, who failed to get line of sight on anything throughout this because of a part of the level that I didn't think would block line of sight blocking line of sight. I figured I'd overwatch with them for a few turns to see if I could score a kill off of that before I extracted them, but I forgot about the pod of seekers that had patrolled into me so my sniper got strangled and died.

is it possible to achieve a mission without fighting or even being seen by the aliens?
that was the result
as it turns out, i did get spotted by the aliens, but only on the very last turn when my ranger ran into the building, planted the X4 charges, activated 3 pods and then ran back to the group
the pods activated, but i skyrangered out before they had a chance to take their turn
so every alien in the room was like
"WHAT HEY WHAT'RE YOU DOIN'?!"
my ranger's like "peace, fuckos" and then we zip out of there and the building explodes
How many chunks (this is technical military talk fyi) are on the Avatar bar when you guys have been going for the blacksite?
I think I'm going to have to restart my campaign again. I'm having a really hard time getting properly geared for that mission without running the clock down to, like, two squares left.
I waited until the doom ticker was completely full, then I lost a pip due to the "skulljack an officer" objective before I actually made it to the blacksite, and now I still haven't done it. Except waiting so long has resulted in the place being staffed by living horrors instead of wimpy Advent nobodies, so...maybe not my best plan? We'll see if anyone croaks when I actually go there.

There were multiple Archons when I finally did Blacksite. Of course, I had Plasma tier weapons, so it wasn't all bad.
I played Enemy Within the same way, always putting off story progression as long as I could.
The thing with ambushes is that you don't *plan* on the perfect setup. When you have a timer, you can't afford the time to do so. It doesn't mean you can't work toward advantageous positioning. You should be trying to move through high cover areas where possible. USE A CONCEALMENT RANGER. This guy is worth his weight in gold to pathfind the aliens. While you have a time limit, you have all the time to plan your placement. You can hover over squares and if the enemy has a crosshair by their health, that trooper can see them from that position. It is entirely possible to set up flanks with a hidden trooper when you initiate a pod.
Also, when you break concealment, do not overwatch. Take the shot, let the aliens get to position. You then have 3-5other pieces to work on that problem. You give the aliens initiative if you overwatch ambush them and you don't kill all of them. Use a heavy with demolition to frag the cover of a dug in tick.
Psi operatives really become monstrous. I just did a retaliation where I wiped out the first pod with void rift and then made a little andromedon buddy follow me around for the rest of the mission.
One thing I'm not sure I'm happy about is how late psi operatives come online. The research takes a pretty long time and it's obviously unjustifiable until you have at least mag/gauss weapons, plated armor, and resistance communications, and then you have to wait for the building to finish, and by that point my main team is mostly majors and captains so it'll be at least another month or two until the psi op has enough skills to compete. Although I rolled Null Lance on my first skill after the free one, so there is that.
