There's a really creepy game for the Oculus Dev Kit 1 that was sort of like this, it's pretty simple by current VR standards but I loved it.
It's obviously not your actual living room, but the game is set with you playing a game on the sofa. The game is a really simple top-down 'adventure horror'. You can turn around and look about the living room whilst you play. There are some steps on one side, the front door on another and you can see out the window in to a forest on a cold wet night.
As you play the 'horror' game on the tv you start to hear sound effects above you, and other things happen (I'll spoiler in case people try it):
At one point the tv cuts to black, then static, then it shows an image of the living room you're sat in (strategically done so it avoids showing you on the sofa), you can see the stairs. Coming down the stairs towards you on the TV is some weird floating static. If you look over at the stairs in the house, there's nothing there. It gets closer, and closer and closer and then... the game comes back on.
Other stuff happens, but towards the end the door of your house slams open and you see wet foot prints making their way towards you on the sofa. IIRC there's a scream and a sudden cut to black.
It's been a while since I've played it, but it simplistic graphically and in concept but was still bloody spooky.

I can see some possibilities.
Floor?
And yet, it always seems to give me a worse night's sleep than unintentionally dozing off.
Did you mean bathroom, or literally IN the toilet?
It is clearly a stylistic choice that he is experimenting with. I'm generally not a fan of see-through hair in art/animation.
Yeah, why only the right one? Is the left eyebrow shy and hiding under Toucan Sam the majestic haircrest?
Except with this example you'd be sitting in a virtual room, looking at a virtual screen DEPICTING you sitting on the citadel etc. etc.
Like god damn this is missing the entire point of VR
