Active Shooter at Washington Navy Yard [Update: Official Confirms Hoax/Swatting attempt]
U.S. Park Police are responding Thursday to a report of an active shooter at the Navy Yard inside the Washington, D.C., city limits, WUSA reports.
An employee inside the 41-acre facility reports that alarms are sounding and the buildings are on lockdown, WUSA reports..
There are no immediate report of casualties.
The Navy yard is located on the Anacostia River less than a mile south of the U.S. Capitol.
In 2013, a gunman shot who got into a building at the Navy Yard killed 12 people and injured three others. He was fatally shot by a Washington Metropolitan police officer.
There is an active shooter at WNYD, for the second time in 2 years, and employees are being asked to shelter in place
Posts
-No reports of anyone hurt at this moment
-So far the police have not confirmed that a gunman has been spotted
But better safe than sorry if you are in the area.
My bro is in the navy in Virginia, recently transferred from Everett, WA. So time to call him.
The good news: The police response is not effing around
Helicopters and a heavy police response on the scene
Still no reports confirming a shooter is on the scene
Hoping the whole thing was a false alarm
The level of stupidity needed to set off fireworks on a navy base at 7 in the morning is monumental, but yeah I REALLY hope its something like that
Stupid finds a way.
The report came from building 197 on the 2nd floor, and the initial report was of two possible shooters in that area.
Police are moving from floor to floor of the building evacuating workers.
To recap: Building 197 is where the shooting took place 2 years ago.
Navy Yard spokesman says he believes this is a Hoax and actually uses the term "SWATTING"
So
Uh, sorry for the thread, but holy crap that dude better hope they don't figure out who he was
The military site of an actual shooting getting swatted may get congress to get off their asses about swatting too.
It made front page news, so making a thread was definitely warranted. CNN still reporting its on lockdown.
geth, lock the thread.
