Star Wars: Force and Destiny is the latest in Fantasy Flight Game(FFG)’s line of Star Wars RPGs. It is such the latest that it isn’t even technically out yet! But luckily for us
The Force and Destiny Beginner Game has been released. This is designed to teach the rules over the course of an included adventure using premade characters, which sounds just peachy for our purposes.
What are the rules?: Force and Destiny uses the same ruleset as FFG’s other Star Wars games. We’ll go into more detail as the rules come up but it is a dice pool system where your characters abilities, skills, and circumstances come together to build a pool. The system is not a binary pass/fail, but also includes a component where you may have an Advantage or a Threat after the roll. So you’re shot at the Stormtrooper might miss but damage the door panel, closing it shot and buying you some time.
I’ve heard there are funny dice…: FFG’s rule system does indeed use some unusual dice. Luckily the good people at orokos.com have us covered for our dice rolling needs and will be used for the game.
A Long, Long, Time Ago: The game takes place sometime between the first and third Star Wars movie, the first deathstar has been destroyed but the second has not yet been revealed. The Empire still controls the vast majority of it’s territory but the Rebel Alliance is gaining strength. Your very existence as Force Users is outlawed, and you must take care to minimize suspicions.
Not your father’s Jedi: Force and Destiny characters are all sensitive to the force, and have some variety of training in it’s use, you are not all powerful. The power level is that of the original trilogy rather than the prequels, a squad of stormtroopers are a deadly threat to your beginning party. You are also not a Jedi, at least not yet, though you may aspire to their ideals. Whether you want to recreate the old order, reform it, follow another tradition, or create something new your actions may shape the galaxy for generations.
The Rebellion wants You!: I’m looking for three or four players to help me give these rules a spin. No previous experience or knowledge with FFG’s rulesystem is required, or even experience with any other RPGs. In keeping with the book’s suggestions we’ll be going over the basics of the rules as they come up in the adventure.
Who are we: There are six premade characters for the adventure. A description of four of the characters are available
on Fantasy Flight’s Website, the two bonus characters
Belandi Feear and
Pon Edestus are available on the website. This includes their character sheets, which will help give you an idea of the game. For ease of use, and since the rulebook has not been released yet, only the pregenerated characters will be allowed in the game.
Help me PCs, you’re my only hope: As mentioned we will be using the adventure included in the Beginner Box as well as The Lure of the Lost expansion on the FFG website. Be aware that the first part is pretty railroad in order to teach the mechanics, it opens up as the adventure progresses. Each of your characters has at one time met the Force scholar Hethan Romund. While not force sensitive herself she helped you to learn about and understand your abilities. Now she needs your help, and has called out to each of you individually to the world of rural world of Spintir where you met up and have followed the trail to a remote mountain pass.
A word on canon: Star Wars is a big universe, and honestly, I don’t know much about the EU and don’t expect you too either. The events of the six movies will be the only canon for the game, and even out of those three of them are history and two haven’t happened yet. This just means don’t worry about how stuff is ‘supposed’ to be. If you think something is reasonable, like that space YouTube exists and is mostly Imperial propaganda and cute womp rat videos then it exists. Additionally if there is some element of the canon or EU you want to include you can, so long as it fits with the tone of the original trilogy. This means no Suncrushers.
OK, I’m in: If you are interested in playing pick one of the six characters and make a post. If it is one of the four from the book I’ll PM you a character sheet and some additional information pertinent to your character. If it is Pon or Belandi then you can use the downloadable sheets. Once we have three or four people signed up and with their character sheets then I’ll create the IC thread and this will become the OOC thread.

As a general note I would reccomend checking out the two downloadable character sheets, they have lots of good notes about abilities and what all the stats mean. Don't worry about understanding everything on it just yet, or even anything on it. Things will get explained as the game goes on.

This means we have only one slot left, if no one signs up by tomorrow though I'll make the IC and OOC threads and we can just slot an additional person in in the first few days of play without any trouble if that sounds good to all of you.
Sorry jdarksun, I think 4 people is probably the max for this, any more then that and I think we'll start hitting into some issues with the design of the adventure.
