Hello PAX People! Throwing out the idea of using Firechat at PAXPrime this year. We had a small group of folks that used it last year, and it worked ok. Thought it might be worth trying it again.
For those of you that have been to PAX, you know that the cel networks and WIFI in the area around PAX is either crappy reception or overwhelmed with the number of devices trying to get service. Generally makes it hard to get in contact with people and difficult to keep track of what is going on (like the official_pax) twitter feed.
Firechat is a messaging / IRC like system which doesn't need access to the Internet to work. It relays between clients to send messages, and the internet if available, creating a mesh network of connected devices. This means that if we can get critical mass at using Firechat, it should be to have a pretty reliable messaging network without any external network dependencies.

I also started a channel for PAX Prime, Feel free to join: #PAXPrime
I will probably see if I can figure out a way to reflect the official PAX twitter (and maybe some specific hashtags) into Firechat. It might also be fun to see if the the vendors will send messages into Firechat. Other ideas are welcome
I have no connection to Firechat.. just think it is a pretty interesting technology for things like PAX.

Looking at iTunes - there isn't a lot of good said about the app though... so I'm not so sure about the execution. But within a dense event like PAX - it could well prove it's usefulness.

1) Get Verizon
2) Enjoy getting all your messages and data
You should still be prepared for battery drain, but yeah this is the best course of action.
PAX. PAX. PAX. Boom.
This. Been on the Verizon network the last 3 years of Prime, never had an issue and my group splits up a lot.
