In games where you go into your inventory to swap out gear, what must that look like to the in-game onlookers?

Either the game pauses, in which case you're blinking in and out of outfits like a sitcom about a suburban witch, or the game keeps going, in which case this scenario occurs - a motionless avatar staring at the inside of his brain while you compare numbers on your War Pants to ensure they are superior to your Battle Trews. Also you've removed your pants to do this.

I'm not certain that IS the joke here. That joke's been made forever right? The fact that they specifically chose The Witcher.

I've played Witcher 3 to death and i don't get this either. Gonna need a news post I think.

That is most certainly the joke. And even if it isn't the joke, that's what I'm laughing at really hard right now.

    and why's the amulet glowing?

I think it just does that.

I got the title joke at least.

I feel like he took his old pants off before he put his new pants on. Both pairs of pants are in the inventory screen.

  • HelicaonHelicaon Registered User regular
yeah, I know it glows - but it's usually to indicate danger or evilness...

I guess the joke is the old "you're naked while changing" thing, but ... I dunno why Geralt looks brain dead during. He strikes me as more of the type to be naked proudly. Maybe wiggling his eyebrows suggestively.

Maybe it's because of how beat-up and pox-ridden his wang is. He isn't exactly discerning about where he puts it.

I haven't played Witcher so I don't know if it applies, but in some games stats are tied to clothing. If his pants raised his Intelligence, then by taking them off he suddenly became really stupid, hence the cross eyed look and drool.

I honestly thought the strip was related to Diablo somehow. WHELP, guess I got brain problems.

Heh nice. That's how I think all npc's see the world.

It could be any game with clothing options and an inventory, really. Diablo was what I thought first until I got the significance of the title.

This strip feels...lazy in a way, from both a writing and art standpoint. Especially compared to the 6-part strip we just had.

I think it's because the game is paused, so "Geralt" kind of doesn't really exist in the moment. The player is swapping stuff around but Geralt is basically checked out.

Mike? Jerry? Thank you for giving us both the very profound and the very, very silly. :)

TychoCelchuuu has it. Geralt is standing there in a trance, buck ass naked, as the player looks through the inventory and the merchant is trying not to stare at his wang or "third sword". It's a very Mike joke.

INACCURATE! As one can clearly see in the aftermath of his scene with a particular sorceress, Geralt owns a pair of rather anachronistic-looking boxers. :bzz:

I moaned during the last six comics how I didn't really care for the diversions and just wanted my video game and dick joke comics.

    I am sated.

Apparently a Gabe joke as Tycho only had a brief what-it-is-link to give to the topic.

More comedy might have ensued from the case where you sell your pants and forget to buy a replacement set and then leave the vendor with that nagging feeling something might be wrong. Or worse...

"You don't have enough money for those warpants sir. And no, I don't have a buyback feature for the warpants you just sold me."

I didn't even notice the no pants straight away, just laughing at the face, then when I got the no pants thing I laughed my ass off.

This http://penny-arcade.com/news/post/2015/08/03/nightlight-and-my-dad is why comments like yours frustrate me. When people see someone pouring their heart into something creative and boo-hoo over it because it means for less than a week they don't get their dick jokes it really pisses me off. Same thing when people put down Jerry's writing or demean Mikes art.

I don't care if you think I'm a fanboy or whatever. I'd say the same about anything anyone put their heart and soul into. There's a person on the other end of that tablet pen and word processing program. At least have a little respect for the effort they're putting in on other peoples behalf.

Nothing to get our dicks in a twist about. For what it's worth, I didn't entirely get the storyline of the last strips either, though I did appreciate the writing and art and I wish my mind could have made sense of it without Mike's explanation. But, you know, that's last week's news. Let's focus on this week while we're in it. I believe what our grinchy friend is trying to say is that he likes dick jokes and is glad to have them back, and honestly, let's not fault him for that. The only thing alarming about that is it's implied that he only has one source of dick jokes, which, I mean, come on. That's just grossly insufficient. Criminally negligent, even.
Even if PA has the very best dick jokes.
    For many years, actually.
    Apparently it's a long-standing tradition.

I think I was rather reserved in my critique. I'm not at all saying Mr_Grinch is a douche or something. I don't know them and do my best to give people the benefit of the doubt. Stuff like that is pretty frustrating though.

I actually didn't really moan during the last run, it was just better than saying "Other people moaned".

My main point was that after a 'serious' 6 comic run we were treated to a comic literally about video games and dicks which I found amusing.

My favourite thing is that after all the hoo-hah about some people finding it hard to follow the Nightlights storyline, the VERY first post on the following dick joke cartoon is literally 'I don't get it'. Comedy gold.

Or maybe it's easier to tell a story in 18 panels than it is in 3, so it makes sense for some people to get lost on today's.
