Database Creation - Resources
For the past 3 years I've been tracking stats for my hockey league using Excel spreadsheets which works well for most things but takes a long time to set up at the start of each season.
I have thought in the past of doing an Access database to track things instead but I haven't done anything in Access since high school over 10 years ago. When I start up a database on my own I get through a few tables before getting overwhelmed and going back to Excel.
Are there any decent internet resources for getting back into this? What I'd like to have in the end is a basic version of what you would find here:
http://www.nhl.com/stats/player
Each year can be brought up, you have a "career" page as well, and since our teams switch each year I can easily switch players to a new team at the start of the year instead of having to go through 6 spreadsheets and spent multiple hours getting thing set for the season. An extra bonus would be that the database could store each game of the season so inputting stats requires just bringing up the most recent game and entering the numbers.
Where should I look to start with this? It doesn't have to be limited to Access and could be done in SQL although I have even less experience with that.
Because if you're going to attempt to squeeze that big black monster into your slot you will need to be able to take at least 12 inches or else you're going to have a bad time...

Nothing wrong with excel either. It does this job well, just a little bit more time consuming.
