discovered battlesword and batushka earlier this morning
battlesword sounds pretty much like you would figure -- early-ish amon amarth. i imagine this is by design.
batushka is fucking awesome black metal that i'm sad i hadn't discovered sooner.
that fiend folio thing is fucking brilliant. i love mixing up different design styles in interesting ways. that whole piece of art makes so much logical sense.
I feel like I mentioned the Batushka in this thread at some point, but I'm glad people are listening to it.

And a new one from Interment. Straight up classic swedish death metal. If you like that Sunlight studios HM-2 sound, this is one of the better albums so far.

A few weeks ago my wife mentioned that Soilwork was playing Chicago on the 19th, opening for Fear Factory. I like both bands, although I've definitely listened to Soilwork more in recent years. Last week I found out Fear Factory is playing Demanufacture in its entirety this tour, which makes me more excited. It's probably my favorite album by them. I don't know anything about the two other openers, Spades and Blades and No Conviction, but I'd be surprised if I like them all.
I'm about to go live the hesher life for 5 weeks on the road supporting Night Demon. We're heading to almost every major market east of the rockies, so let's hang out. Here's a list:
Apr. 8 – Albuquerque, NM – Launchpad
Apr. 11 – San Antonio, TX – Korova
Apr. 12 – Austin, TX – Beerland
Apr. 14 – Houston, TX – Rudyard’s
Apr. 15 – Ft. Worth, TX – Grotto
Apr. 19 – Atlanta, GA – TBA
Apr. 22 – Asheville, NC – Odditorium
Apr. 25 – Philadelphia, PA – Kung Fu Necktie
Apr. 26 – Portland, ME – Geno’s Rock Club
Apr. 28 – Boston, MA – Great Scott
Apr. 29 – Brooklyn, NY – Saint Vitus Bar
Apr. 30 – Montreal, QC – Katakombes
May 2 – Detroit, MI – Small’s
May 3 – Cleveland, OH – TBA
May 8 – Chicago, IL – Reggie’s Music Joint
May 9 – St. Louis, MO – Fubar
May 11 – Kansas City, MO – Riot Room
May 12 – Denver, CO – TBA

Definitely need to buy the tickets soon.
I saw Soilwork when they were touring with In Flames around 2003. Great show, but I haven't kept up with their music. I should check out some of their newer stuff.

Their last two albums, The Living Infinite and The Ride Majestic are pretty good. I kinda stopped listening to them after Figure Number Five, but started again after seeing them on a metal cruise in 2012. The albums between FNF and The Living Infinite don't really do much for me, to be honest. A catchy song here and there, but it seems like there was a big jump in quality with TLI.
Yeah, last two albums were their best since Natural Born Chaos.
Man, the new Artillery album, they just can't seem to grasp the genius of their riffing circa 1990, even though they clearly try to ape those riffs in several songs here. The new singer just doesn't have the character of either of his predecessors, least of all Ronsdorf. It's not bad, and it definitely feels fresh compared to most other modern power/thrash, but it's not really much better than either of the last two albums. I'll listen to it a few more times.

Hmm...can I get someone to work for me that Wednesday?
No matter where you go...there you are. ~ Buckaroo Banzai
Dayuuum!Cult Leader is taking a trip to Europe in a month and they're bringing Rotten Sound, of all people!
I think it was three years since I've been to a gig that wasn't some DIY thing...

You should! Vanlade is playing that too, and they're fucking great.

That's a bummer. I've been meaning to check the new material out, but life has been ridiculously crazy in preparation for this silly venture. Must have been something in the water during the songwriting sessions for By Inheritance. Maybe a small dose of LSD or something.

More likely, real life will intervene as per usual, but one can always hope ...
except when you've been listening to too much wrist-slashing DSBM fun for your own damn good. :P
Discovered a long lost demo tape from my industrial band circa 1992. hypnox.com/Anfechtung_Faultman.mp3 For fans of Godflesh, Head of David, Pitchshifter, Skrew, etc.

This is fucking awesome. Sounds like Godflesh by way of Tool.

My hesher friends and I in Québec City are big fans of Visigoth and we're pretty stoked to finally be able to see the band ! We'll definetly road trip to Montréal for this.

Thanks! I think if we had a little more time to develop and knew what we were doing as far as promotion and stuff went we might have had something but alas, it was not meant to be.
I don't hate them. I don't love them either. Once you watch them for about twenty seconds you've seen pretty much all their moves and it's just...eh...It does give me the feeling like I get when I hear the theme song to an anime I especially like though. This weird sort of nostalgia or something.
The overbearing metalcore vocals really ruin Protest the Hero songs, I wish they'd just stick to the cleans, which are great. The music on their new EP is pretty good, but once those shouts arrive it's like pissing in my cornflakes. Fortunately it's not too often.

The less they scream the better, because even for someone who enjoys the occasional metalcore burp, their screams are cornball af.
How's the new bassist?

Let us know which of these you like and we can probably guide you to even more bands. Those are pretty classic death metal vocals on top of a prog/djent track.

Thanks! I'll check some out tonight :-)
I like monuments but more often than not he goes for a metalcore growl instead of a death growl and I prefer the later. I'm also not big on his cleans, but I do enjoy the group and are seeing them live next Tuesday.

I'm in total agreement.
Everything is top-notch with PtH but the shouty vox.
I'd go so far as to say, it's the only boring/generic thing in they do.

It was pretty typical modern radio metal with a J-pop twist.
That intro riff was straight out of the In This Moment playbook, though.
Work of art.

And Dark Funeral has a track up from their upcoming album.
Sounds much better than Nail Them to the Cross and Heljarmadr sounds good on the vocals.
They beat out Cancer Bats, who are one of my favourites, but it's nice to see some death metal get recognition.

I'm looking for something with a bit of groove and crunch with a hefty growl.
Something like from 1:41-2:20 of this song:
I don't hate them. I don't love them either. Once you watch them for about twenty seconds you've seen pretty much all their moves and it's just...eh...It does give me the feeling like I get when I hear the theme song to an anime I especially like though. This weird sort of nostalgia or something.

Watching them play live gives me a similar feeling to watching the Polyphonic Spree. You can tell they're having fun and it's infectious.

The newest Job for a Cowboy, Suneater.
Maybe some Revocation
Possibly Whitechapel
Fallujah
Faceless
And some classic bands
Immolation
Hate Eternal
Some people could be interested in knowing that Phil Tougas of Chte'helist fame is in this band.
Thanks! I'll check some out tonight :-)
