Codemasters sent out a press release today announcing Operation Flashpoint 2! press release as follows.
Operation FlashpointTM, the game that invented the conflict simulation genre, to return in 2008.
Promising warfare on a scale never seen in a FPS, the biggest name in modern military simulation gaming will return in 2008 as Codemasters confirms that Operation Flashpoint™2 is in development for PC and major console formats.
Operation Flashpoint™2 will mark the long-awaited return of the total conflict simulator, which won international acclaim. Now in development, it is Codemasters Studios' most extensive R&D project to date. With the studio's largest development team ever assembled, Operation Flashpoint™2 has already benefited from over two years of pre-production on a closed set basis and will use a new FPS variant of Neon technology, the studio's proprietary middleware.
Building on the original game's heritage, Operation Flashpoint™2 will see the most realistic modelling of conflict scenarios in a new contemporary theatre of war. By offering a multitude of military disciplines, gameplay will deliver warfare more realistic and intense then ever before, while an extensive multiplayer component will create battles on an incredible scale.
Set to redefine the genre it created, Operation Flashpoint™2 is coming in 2008. Further details will be announced this summer; gamers can sign up for future development briefings online at:

Awesome. I was thinking about starting this game up again... its about god damn time
Librarians harbor a terrible secret. Find it.
Noooo!!!!!!!!!
Still, looks pretty sweet.
The screenshot looks pretty damn convincing in high res.
I honestly don't actually believe that's a real shot though.
Well it's clearly not gameplay, and I'm sure it's been dressed up a little, but I have no problem believing that's in engine. It's the same engine as Colin McRae: Dirt, have you seen that game? Those screen are real, some from replays some from gameplay.
I didn't believe Gears of War screenshots were real, at first. Now I know better.
Yeah, I've watched the trailers on... gametrailers http://www.gametrailers.com/gamepage.php?id=4609 and noticed the (expected) dive in quality from trailer1 to trailer2 (in game footage). Foliage looks nice though.
Codemasters owns the rights to the name but not the source, while BIS made the spiritual successor in Armed Assault.
It will probably be some kind of limited scripted game limited to a small area in order to appeal to the mass gaming crowd.
So, if you want a hardcore soldier sim then I doubt this will be it. Unlike its predecessor.

I've got a spare copy of Portal, if anyone wants it message me.
I've got a Vietnamese friend who refused to play Conflict Vietnam with us. He said it jokingly, and then we did play it but stopped playing it because it was garbage. I didn't even give it a second thought when I asked him, his response took me by surprise as I'm not Vietnamese and therefore saw no foul. I rarely see fouls though, if a game is fun, it's fun.
Seems pretty hypocritical to me though, to have issues with violence when it's aimed at what you associate with, but not have issues when it's aimed at what other people associate with? I was glad to see that he was only joking when he said it, but him and I seem to have a pretty sinister humor between us. We'd generally be labeled "bad people" in public, as we point and laugh at drunk chicks that fall on the street, or kids that wipe out on their bikes/skateboards/rollerblades, or when guys trip while trying to act cool.
