and Haze!
Haze is coming out soon after Lair? Really? That's cool. I'm looking forward to that one quite a bit. I can actually come up with a good number of exclusive titles that I'm looking forward to for the system, as well. The current line-up is actually pretty good, but beyond that, I can't say. With lots of publishers/developers showing skepticism and lack of development resources for the system, the future beyond that line-up kind of looks bleak. But I'm not worried, as there are plenty of games on that line-up that I want bad enough for the system, and I don't mind using it for Blu-ray movies, either.
Yeah I know that, what I meant to point out was the sheer number of quality titles all three are throwing out then.
Would someone mind telling me why people think Haze looks super awesome? I mean seriously, I think Free Radical are godly but I watched the first trailer of the game and didn't come away super impressed.
Also, I'm pretty sure Haze is coming out around November so if you're going to toss that name around then you may as well mention Ratchet & Clank, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword and Uncharted as well.
lair does excite me, but not really for the price of a ps3.
I can't speak for anyone else but myself, but I'm interested in Haze for two reasons:
1) Timesplitters 2, made by Free Radical, is probably my favorite shooter ever---though at times I think I like UT2k3 for the PC a bit better.
2) The story, and the effects of the nectar looks to make for interesting play dynamics as well as different-than-usual sort of story.
To say nothing of the fact that it doesn't look half bad.
it attracted me to the series.
well i know better than to say, never say never but i did. anyways, anything stop you from trying virtua fighter before, or have u tried the previous console or arcade games?
Lair and Mario Strikers Charged are dropping around the same time, but they're not 100 percent the top-shelf type of stuff you see gamers tossing around on List Warzz.

Mario Strikers has been out for ages now, just not in the states. And it honestly should be "top-shelf" stuff. It's amazingly fun and slick.

well actually i hadn't even heard of Virtua Fighter pre VF 5.
Wii Sports is not a pack-in in Japan. It has to be bought separately.
The SP is very solid hardware. I traded mine in a while ago, and ended up buying a new one recently (sorely regretting the original trade in). I love the form factor and the overall solid feel of the unit. The only problem with it is that the grip and buttons feel cramped compared to the DS. Still, it's a beautiful unit.

Regardless, anyone interested in attach rate to judge how the install base affects sales isn't going to care about a packin game. They're going to care about games on the shelves that sold to people with Wiis.

Er.. Which doesn't really confirm anything.
It certainly sounds like they are building it for PC and 360 as well. General consensus seems to be that it's a timed exclusive - though the PS3 may be getting as little as a few weeks of exclusivity. Sounds like the details haven't been settled on yet - maybe E3 will shed some more light.

I heard (I think it was on 1up or something) that it'll be PS3 exclusive for about 3 days
If that's true (and I have no idea if it is), then that's not really an exclusive at all; the 360 version would probably be delivered to the store on the same truck!
Maybe they needed to find a loophole in an exclusivity arrangement, after realizing that they needed to hit 360 early to make the game financially viable. (Note: If that actually is a loophole in an exclusivity arrangement, there's a lawyer somewhere who needs to lose their job for missing the bleeding obvious)

Ok, the original ubisoft release schedule had dated the 360 and PC release as Nov 30th, with the PS3 release on the 23rd. But I think that's the date the joystick article mentions as yanked.
The official line has been kind of retarded. Europeans came out of the European UbiDay saying that it was a PS3 timed exclusive, while American journalists didn't even mention it. Whether the European journalists were reporting something that was under NDA (they seem to do it a lot) or not, it does seem like it's going to be a PS3 timed exclusive. Not only was the PS3 the lead platform during development but they've also taken the 360 and PC logos off of the official website.
Also, back at UbiDay weren't there rumblings that another Ubisoft game would be PS3 timed exclusive in Europe? I seem to remember someone saying that about Assassin's Creed. Whether it was fake or not, I can't remember (probably fake).
That's why I said "outside of Japan." Which is to mean that tie-in ratios, outside of japan, are 1 game higher than the number indicates; and conversely, IN japan, the tie-in ratio works the say way that it does for every other system.
For me, and I'm not speaking about anyone else (be they publishers, analysts, game companies, other forumers, etc.), knowing that Wii Sports is not included in the tie-in ratio in every country <besides japan> is something that I personally consider important.
Wii Sports sells systems, it's an important game. Here's an example. Most people buy a system knowing that there will be at least 1 particular game that they really look forward to. For other systems, say the 360, Halo 3 might be that game. Buying a 360 + Halo creates a tie-in ratio of 1:1. Buying a Wii + Wii Sports creates a tie-in ratio of 1:0.
So, <outside of Japan>, the tie-in ratio for the Wii is going to appear different than it is when you consider the actual number of games that a Wii owner has.
I know, I know. None of that matters for the 'official' tie-in ratio that people will throw about. I just think that it's important to remember that people get something out of a Wii, even if you assume that the tie-in ratio is 1:0. That is not true of the other systems, where you have to buy something additional to get something out of it.
Fortunately none of this matters, because the Tie-in for the Wii after 3 or 4 months was ~3.6. Which means that people are buying Wiis and have collected between 3 and 4 games in addition to Wii Sports (and that was several months ago). So yay for good software sales!
