Dewy's Adventure Hands-on (Wii)

Some of the more notable....er, notes.
"Luckily, with Dewy's Adventure, Konami sidestepped the problems that those aforementioned games ran into regarding the tilt controls; namely the discomfort associated with holding the Wiimote in the standard pointer position. Dewy's Adventure forgoes this, opting instead for the horizontal alignment seen in Excite Truck and Super Paper Mario."

"From what we played, the majority of the game's puzzles revolve around Dewy's temperature-altering abilities. Pressing down on the d-pad will lower the temperature of the world, which will not only turn the ground into ice, but also freeze Dewy, making him all the more formidable in combat. Pressing up on the d-pad will increase the environmental temperature, turning Dewy into a cloud of vapor and giving him the ability to rain lightning bolts down on the unsuspecting enemies. These bolts of lightning are weak and simply stun most enemies, although they can be charged up to deliver a devastating shockwave to a number of enemies caught in the wake of the blast.

While these temperature-based transformations do increase Dewy's strength, they do not come without their drawbacks. When in vapor form, Dewy will float above the stage, but will be immobile unless blown around by stray gusts of wind. Similarly, Dewy may have an improved set of combo attacks when frozen, but controlling him will become more difficult as he slips across the icy terrain. These temperature alterations are limited in time; a meter of the left side of the screen will begin counting down as soon as the ability is activated, although this was never too intrusive in our experience with the game."

The game even features a similar level creator and photo-taking option to Elebits, although just how either of them works in the game is yet to be divulged. ....Konami reps confirmed that both your photos and edited levels can be shared with other players via WiiConnect24, which is most definitely a welcome addition.

The pictures are WAY too damn big to post, but they look really good. Might be a bit much on some bloom though. There's also videos.

Could this be a sleeper hit somewhat like Elebits?

Glad to have some more info on the game, I'm really looking forward to this.

Elebits looked nice, but my fear of all things first-person left me disinterested. Dewy looks awesome though. Those temperature controllers sound really fun.

The graphics do look really nice, particularly the lighting effects and super-high geometric detail. The game its self doesn't look that great to me though. I suppose I just might not understand what it's supposed to play like yet. Well, however it plays in the end, at least it looks like Konami isn't half-assing it.

Looks nice and colorful, and the mechanics sound interesting so far. Not much else to say until we actually feel how it controls and so forth. Level editor could be interesting if this becomes a hit...

Best looking Wii game next to Super Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros. definitely, good to see that kind of thing coming from a third party to. I had a lot of fun with Elebits so I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this.

Reminds me of Kororinpa, which was a hell of a lot of fun, if a little short lived.

Would it be wrong if I believed this was basically Super Monkey Ball made into a platformer?

    Because it sounds awesome.

Those shots are rendered at a higher resolution than is possible for Wii games.

I assumed that was the case when the OP said he didn't post images for the Hscroll Rape. Thing is, it is showing up jaggies that won't be there in the final game, it's silly.

It's disguising a lot of the jaggies you mean. There's only one screenie with the furniture where there's a lot of ugly to it. It's a shame because it just makes you realise how much better the games would look in 720p.

I'm not a morning person. I routinely get up around 9. I got up a 6:30 to work an early shift at work. I'm sittin here, drinkin coffee with two shots of vanilla cream, regardless of my gullet's attitude towards lactosey goodness.

This video is so saccharine sweet that I think I'm gonna get diabetes. I dunno. It looks interesting, but it's just one more game in a long line of "tilt the world, command your character" games that will pop up on the Wii.

I'm more interested in that bit of four player near the end.

I'm feeling Pikmin as well. For one, the enemies have the same health circle thingy.

Also, that Sam Fisher frog is just begging to have 60 rabid Pikmans dropped on it.

So yeah... where's Pikmin Thwii at anyway?

Apparently you guys are just fine with the Wii being flooded with Marble Madness clones.

"Roll this thing that way and avoid the obstacles."

    Thrilling 1984 gameplay.

No, in 1984, we'd be rolling a freaking trackball in our hands.

I'm still waiting for the remake of Rocket Jockey.

Just for the record, Marble Madness came out in '84. I wasn't exactly referencing the book.
